After a second disappointing FNM performance in a row, I took a couple weeks off to get smacked down playing Modern at local PTQs. I came back tonight having made some tweaks meant to streamline and ramp the deck's focus. The result was 8th out of 66.

Round 1 vs Mono-Green: I've played this archetype several times at FNM and never lost. I played it twice tonight (against new pilots each time) and continued my streak. Angel of Serenity took care of Predator Ooze, as did Sever the Bloodline. I won 2-1.

Round 2 vs Jund Wolf Run Ramp: This was a fun match. First game took 20 minutes. I won after two Angels cleared the board of a Griselbrand, flipped Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip, and 2 Thragtusk. Second game, he started with a Slaughter Games and exiled my Unburial Rites. Kessig Wolf Run and a bunch of mana dorks did the rest of the work for him. Third game, he used one of my tricks against me and cast a Craterhoof Behemoth to run me over. I lost 1-2.

Round 3 vs Naya Midrange: Game 1 was a battle of the Thragtusks, but some timely angels gave me the win. He missed some early land drops in game 2 and I took the round 2-0.

Round 4 vs Esper Control: Reanimator loves getting milled, and with my anti-control sideboard suite, I wasn't too concerned with this matchup, though I have lost to the archetype in the past. I took the first game, finishing him with a quick craterhoof. He got out Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, and I missed a couple land drops in game 2. Game 3, I slaughtered Sphinx's Revelation and Dissipate, put him under some Duress and unburied a craterhoof for the win. 2-1, me.

Round 5 vs Mono-Green: Second match-up against this archetype, though it featured Rubblebelt Raiders, a card I hadn't seen in the other decklists. I took game 1 thanks to my angels. Game 2 saw him miracle Revenge of the Hunted twice. Can't do much about that. When he pulled the same miracle again in Game 3, I started to worry, but then his deck stalled and I grabbed victory. I won the match 2-1. Final record for the night was 4-1.
