Sideboard


So you have seen the deck and I know what you are thinking (maybe). What is this shit? This deck is 4c Roayl Scions, it is based on 4c Leovold decks but biggest difference are the Scions instead of Dack Fayden .

So, why the scions? In legacy dealing 6 dmg to planeswalker can be a real task so they are MUCH harder to kill than Dack. Scions also have their other + ability that gives +2/0 first strike and trample.... do you know what happens when your 5/6 tarmoboi gets these steroids? It becomes super tarmoboi that hits 7 dmg with trample. Last point is its ultimate ability, Dacks worst thing is that his ultimate didn't do much or anything because everything you point with spells dies but scions rebuild your hand while dealing tons of dmg. Of course Dack has hes own points like looting 2 instead of 1 and that enables you to go through your deck faster and his -2 can randomly steal something (like Baleful Strix ). In the end the power to finish games faster and more reliable with Scions and that they are really hard to kill made them the choice for this deck.

Creatures:

  • Snapcaster Mage Do I even need to explain? Fineeee? Snapcaster is too nuts not to play because it just does everything. he attac he protec but most importantly he is Ambush Viper
  • Tarmogoyf Tarmoboi is like the friend that you can call when somebody stole you lollipop and he will come and he will smack some opponents
  • Leovold, Emissary of Trest The card where this decks old name came. Leovold is just value engine that doesn't like even the idea that your opponent would draw cards, but when somebody tries to be mean to you or to your friends he will give you a card so you wouldn't feel bad.
  • Plague Engineer 3 mana 2/2 deathtouch that in enter kills every bird or human (Strix or snapcaster). Plague engineer is a card that randomly can kill stuff on board and if nothing else it is deathtouch creature that trades or is really annoying to block when Scions have given him steroids

I am not yet satisfied what creatures I am playing so these will change.

Instants and sorcery

  • Brainstorm and Ponder are real no brainers because this is legacy and we are playing blue.
  • Spell Snare Personally I don't like this card but I gotta admit that countering Wrenn and Six or Snapcaster with 1 mana is really sweep
  • Abrupt Decay and Assassin's Trophy are the best GB removal spells. I like this split because Decay can kill really essential targets like Blood Moon , Back to Basics , 3 mana walkers and something like mentor that just needs to be killed and it can't be countered.
  • Punishing Fire real VALUE grinder. You can discard these to Scions +1 ability or you can hit them to face or you can kill your opponents creatures with these again and again and again and again.
  • Drown in the Loch Real surpriser I could say because didn't believe how good this card is before I tested them. This card is really sad against Gurmag Angler and other delve cards but agains anything else it usually does something because it feeds from random cantrips and fetch lands and becomes 2 mana counter or kill anything.
  • Liliana's Triumph just a edict effect against those stupid True-Name Nemesis and in general 1 edict isn't a bad thing to have.
  • Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize are so you can have small peak what they have and so you can disrupt their plans.
  • Force of Will or shorly FoW. We are playing legacy and blue so again no brainer.

Planeswalkers (believe me this is not a super friends even with this amount of walkers)

  • The Royal Scions Decks name walker. I already explained why I think they are so nuts
  • Oko, Thief of Crowns another really hard to kill planeswalker that starts giving you life of upgrades your snapcasters OR starts to make free 3/3s so you can start pressuring your opponent. Also giving a food for Delver isn't a bad trade for you.
  • Jace, the Mind Sculptor Well Jace is a Jace so that is why he is here. I am not sure is Jace actually needed because usually I use him as FoW food but he is really STRONK if he resolves.

Sideboard:

Nihil Spellbomb and Surgical Extraction are main graveyard hate cards

Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast against other blue decks. This split is made because your opponents usually bring surgical against your Punishing Fires and with this split they can't randomly take both.

Veil of Summer Surprisingly effective card that can be used effectively against counters, discard and removal/bounce

Scavenging Ooze Value grinder, snapcaster hater and is also aggressive grave hater.

Assassin's Trophy More removal against anything.

To the Slaughter Such a cool card. Slaughter is another edict effect that hits planeswalkers as well + delirium is surprisingly easy to get.

Toxic Deluge and Pernicious Deed are this decks sweep effects

Kolaghan's Command Value grind machine and artifact hate

Force of Negation Extra force against combo mainly.

Ashiok, Dream Render Again combo hate and at the same time gravehate.

Updates Add

20.10 (Scions and Drown in the Loch were added after good amount of testing) 4-0

1st round against Sultai Shardless Order (2-1). My opponents deck is a sultai midrange that gets value from creatures that replace themselves like Ice-Fang Coatl and then to use Natural Order to get a bomb. We had grinding session and I won at last extra turn with scion ult + 2 tarmogoys

2nd round against mono red prison (2-1). Surprising victory I know. 1st game I managed to counter every blood moon and smash my opponent with tarmogoyf + scion. 2nd game 2 Pyroblast were too much for me to handle so he was able to resolve a blood moon. 3rd game we went to stalling war but in the end Scion + Plague Engineer were too much for my opponent.

3rd round against burn (2-1). I won this match only because I won the dice and started the first game and third game and managed to save life much earlier. I still hate Price of Progress.

4th round against Pox (2-0). Lets just say that resolving any planeswalker almost wins you the game especially if one of them draws you 4 cards.

13.21 top 8 at bigger tournaments (Oko was added to this tournament)

1st round against worst match up mono red prison (0-2).

2nd round against Esper Deathblade (2-0). This was easy match up because punishing fire kept killing his stuff and dack stealed his equipments. 2nd game the whole game resolved to me playing well because I made only plays that played around Surgical extraction so I could keep killing his stuff and killing my opponent.

3rd round against dredge (2-1). 1st game.... well shit he is a dredge and I lost. 2nd game my opponent found only few dredge cards but I managed to get his Ichorid and Bridge from Below with surgical + snapcaster. 3rd game we both mulliganed to 5 and I kept blue card, force of negation, spellbomb, grove and Oko and first turn I forced my opponents looting but he had other with LeD and he dredged but I made quick stop of that with spellbomb and while he was gathering new cards I got to Oko and to tarmogoyf and beated him.

4th round we had intentional draw.

top 8 game I lost to Eldrazi Twelve post (1-2). Really hard match up because his top decks are always better than mine in time.

1.9 3-0-1

1st round against Pox (2-0). 1st game oddly my opponent kept bad hand that had 3 Wastelands but not much discarding and I was able to get Wrenn + Dack on field and surprise for anybody I won. 2nd thanks to Veil of Summer and Snapcaster I denied twice my opponents move and got cycle my Punishing Fire till I found walkers

2nd round against Mono Blue The Antiquities War (2-1). 1st game my opponent got turn 3 Antiquities and I didn't first find FoW and after that I didn't find Assassin's Trophy and lost to 6 5/5 artifacts. 2nd game Pernicious Deed did its job by blowing up most of the board while Dack stealed everything what he wanted. 3rd game my opponent got Etched Champion to resolve and got me to 2 life points but I managed to kill, bounce and steal enough artifacts to kill it with punishing fire.

3rd round against UW stoneblade (1-1-1) 1st game my opponent drew 3 True-Name Nemesis but I managed to deal with them with Liliana's triumph, snapcaster to triumph and Thoughtseize. 2nd game my opponent got turn 3 Narset and I cried with card draw. 3rd game we had 7 minutes but it wasn't enough and we had draw

4th round against Mono Black Zombies (2-1) 1st game I drew shit ton of lands and lost. 2nd round I grinded my opponent with punishing fires and other removal. 3rd game was anticlimactic because my opponent kept risky hand that didn't pay off and he lost

25.8 2-0-1

1st round against Abzan Nic Fit (2-1) Nic Fit was hard match up because I don't have multiple basic lands but grinding with multiple planeswalkers that he ramped me to gave the edge for winning both matches.

2nd round against Mono black zombies (2-0) 1st game Wrenn and Six dealt with small threats while everything else dealt with anything else. 2nd game I got to cycle my punishing fire from turn 2 and he didn't have enough threats.

3rd round against Pox (1-1-1) 1st game turn 3 top decked Dack and I got to see too many cards. 2nd game I started with one lander because I didn't want to mulligan to 5 and I lost because I didn't draw lands even with can trips. 3rd game we had 3 minutes in clock and we just took draw
