Four color value pod, building off my sultai pod list. Experimenting with different colors.

Survival of the Fittest [2] Birthing Pod [2] Spellseeker [2]

Cards that have been underperforming:

  • Jace, Vryn's Prodigy?

Changelog

Skyclave Apparition is a huge win for this style of deck. It removes almost every permanent you care about and gives your opponent a middling resource when they do remove it. Glasspool Mimic   is a cool way to double-up on effects you have in play while having a decent floor of being a land. I'm not sure how much spell-based removal this deck needs but Bloodchief's Thirst is a really powerful effect.

I've flooded out a bit too often with this deck, so I'm going to replace a land with the Mimic. Gaea's Cradle is obviously a powerful card but it can be a little awkward - you don't always have use for the extra green compared to other colors. I don't think this deck really needs the cantrips with all the tutors, so I'm cutting the worst one. I've never been super happy with Jace. He so often dies without giving you any value.

Turntimber Symbiosis   should also be in the deck but I haven't picked one up yet.

I haven't played Canadian Highlander since the points update, but Spellseeker is now 2 points, which makes the current configuration illegal. In playing the deck the infinite turn combo came up enough that I wonder if it's right to keep that and drop the Birthing Pod, but that seems a little crazy.

So for now, that means Time Walk is out and so is Archaeomancer, since that was mainly there for the infinite combo. In their place I'm looking at Survival of the Fittest and a card I'm interested in trying out from M21: Llanowar Visionary.

Old infinite turn combo, for posterity:

  1. Get Spellseeker into play
  2. Grab Ephemerate. Blink Spellseeker.
  3. Grab Time Walk. Cast it. Total mana: 3 + however you got spellseeker into play (6 if hardcast)
  4. On next upkeep, Ephemerate Spellseeker off rebound. Grab Neoform.
  5. Neoform Spellseeker into Archaeomancer.
  6. Grab Ephemerate with the ETB.
  7. Ephemerate Archaeomancer. Grab Time Walk. Cast Time Walk. Total mana: 5
  8. On next upkeep, Ephemerate Archaeomancer off rebound.
  9. Repeat steps 6 - 8. Total mana per turn: 3
Trying out a couple things from Ikoria. The tri-lands seem pretty great for a 4-color deck - can fetch them out early if you're playing off-curve or cycle them late. This deck has some pretty big mana requirements (double pips for all four colors), so extra fixing is nice.

Vivien, Monsters' Advocate seems absurd in a creature toolbox deck. It keeps gas flowing and gives you more opportunities to tutor out creatures. I'm trying her in place of The Scarab God since they're both value creatures and I've found Scarab God to be the least important 5 drop when podding up the chain - he just doesn't impact the board like the other two.

Luminous Broodmoth seems really strong in a deck that's intentionally sacrificing creatures. Can potentially be a 4-mana do nothing but easily worth trying out. I don't know what to cut for her though. Going with Restoration Angel since they fill sort of similar roles of increasing value of other creatures (very loosely though) and they're both 4 drops. Don't feel confident about that at all though.

Fiend Artisan is a Green Sun's Zenith on a stick, with a few extra hoops to jump through. Turning your mana dorks into 3 and 4 drops seems really powerful. I've never been happy with Regrowth, and that's not really a 2-mana play anyway, so cutting that for him.
