Two Pithing Needle
has always felt like the right number to me. I always seem to find at least one of them Game 2 and almost never need the second one but it is always nice to have.
I am excited for BNG as well. Got a really good deal on my booster case. ;)

Because the other 3 r MB. I side in the 4th one quite frequently. Usually in place of the 4th Desecration Demon

Hmm it seems switching the two around would be more beneficial then. Starting the game with 4 Abrupt Decay and only 3 Desecration Demon mb

Well the thing is, as much as I love Abrupt Decay it can be a dead draw vs certain decks (very few) but Desecration Demon is never a dead draw.

I was considering a similar deck because the synergy between Corpsejack Menace and Kalonian Hydra is very brutal, especially with Scavenging Ooze . Definitely a +1. Love The Deck.

M16man66 Thanks!
Scavenging Ooze is one of my favorite cards to play, it just grows and grows!

Have you though about adding ordeals in here? I have a friend who built a Lotleth Troll deck that hurts alot when he Ordeal of Erebos 's me. all he has to do is get the ordeal and and swing once. Before attacking he dumps 2 creatures to troll and that bumps him into enough counters to activate the ordeal and hit for 6. Brutal I tell yeah. Just a thought.

Josiah Thanks for the +1
I think that is a really cool idea, sounds fun. ...but I don't think there is enough room for it. I would have to take removal or a charm out to make space, and think I would rather have an answer than the Ordeal of Erebos . Kudos to ur friend for putting together that tech though! It does sound rough, especially early game.
January 6, 2014 7:51 p.m.
No Problem ! :)
It is rough. Becuase of the regen he's also incredibly resilient too. Makes it so, if you dont have Blue then you can't deal with him (you have to bounce or wipe to kill him).
I'm curious, did you ever consider Pack Rat when you were building this? I know that you already have 2 (very good) creatures at the 2-drop slot. But it was the first card that came to mind when I saw the Deathrite Shaman (then i saw the Ooze O.o). Down side is, Pack Rat IS sucepitble to removal. Moreso than lol troll at least. So, imho, Lotleth Troll is better for your deck. No question about it. Just wondering. :)
Great deck. Gives me some hope for a non-blue standard at least.

Yea, Pack Rat flat out kicks ass. I did put it under a lot of consideration but decided against it because it didn't have a self-pump mechanic. I do like the card and own a playset, I've been trying to fit him into another deck though.

It's all good. Golgari is still the strongest deck out there IMO. Even without it's scry lands, or indestructible god, of legedary artifact.

This is going to be so heartbreaking when rotation hits..............

+1 I really like this deck! I love golgari, and I wish there was more to work with. Have you thought about adding Whip of Erebos to bring back any dead creatures or ones who are discarded with Grisly Salvage ?

kmcree Thanks!
Usually I exile them with Scavenging Ooze . I love Golgari too and while I bummed that Born of the Gods is showing no love at all. It means Journey to Nyx is gonna be loaded with good stuff! Can't wait.

It's all good NastyNate. My modern Rock deck uses half the cards in this; Scavenging Ooze , Deathrite Shaman , Abrupt Decay Overgrown Tomb + Thoughtseize r all part of this deck

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. Still might be worth a shot though. Whipping in a Kalonian Hydra or Desecration Demon (if they don't have creatures to sac) is probably a lot more beneficial than simply turning it into a 1/1 counter and 1 life.

I think RUG devotion might barely pass this deck up, but I'm still going to build it now that we have BotGs and it gave most people almost nothing. However RUG devotion was already a pretty decent 50/50 match up for this deck, but now with Xenagos, God of Revels, it might win out overall. Or at least force you to put Unravel into the sideboard. Even then the Simic charm gained from it being RUG really helps against Golgari. It just feels like besides White's Brimas, GR is the only color that got decent help. But we'll see what happens.
What I'm really hoping for is some decent reprints in the Duels deck featuring our favorite Golgari planeswalker.

I am curious as to why Pain Seer is in your maybe board. He seems like a very weak addition to this deck with so many other good two-drop. I cant remember the name of the new hydra that sacs one of your creatures and gains +1/+1 based on the toughness but i can see that finding a spot in this deck.

1st I feel honored that u built the deck 2nd I'm proud it wrecked shop for u!
The very first form of this deck started out with Encroaching Wastes in it, then SB'd then completely replaced. I bought the Mutavault s when they were 13$ and while they do improve this deck, I would keep rocking the wastes until the price drops. They're modern worthy and honestly I prefer them to Tectonic Edge . Mutavault is not worth 35$ and maybe we'll get lucky with BNG having something nice in it. Wouldn't pay more than 20$ each for them.
2nd, SB is a tough one. I have the same experience, I play and often after game 1 I don't feel like I really need to side anything in to win game 2. That's what I love about Rock, it's the answer deck, 100% pure card economy. Which is probably why my SB feels like an extension of the deck, rather than answers. I've had a tough time with the SB. Standard is really limited as far as options.
That being said, Seize or ScOoze is the best answer for Blood Baron of Vizkopa U could also side in Witchstalker and Mistcutter Hydra against him. If u have the mana and Mistcutter Hydra in hand. Flash in a 5/5 Hydra to chump block Chump Baron of Esper Control. Alternatively, Ratchet Bomb can take him out as well, though a Mistcutter or ScOoze is much easier to find. Desecration Demon has worked before too.
I haven't had much issue with Fiendslayer Paladin myself, his protection only prevents removal, so blocking has always been my answer, First Strike isn't as threatening as Double Strike.
I had Lifebane Zombie on the maybe list, as he does work well but decided against him at the time. May find his way to the SB as a 2-of . Skylasher is another card that may end up on the SB. Can't wait to see what options BNG brings us.
I side in the Pithing Needle s the most too. There is almost always a target for them, and they don't even have to play the threat for u to use them. Been debating adding more in, what do u think?
