Main Combo:
Battered Golem/Traxos Scourge of Kroog/Steelfin Whale/Mirran Spy
Banishing Knack/Retraction Helix
Sai, Master Thopters/Golem Foundry/Glaring Flesh Raker
Welding Jar/Everflowing Chalice/Delif's Cone/Tormod's Crypt/Mishra's Bauble
Back Up Combo:
Emry, Lurker of the Loch
Mirran Spy
Welding Jar/Delif's Cone/Tormod's Crypt/Mishra's Bauble
The combos will trigger an infinite loop of casting artifact spells, which will either create infinite thopters, golems, or Eldrazi Spawns with infinite damage.
Merchant Scroll, Solve the Equation, Micromancer and Dizzy Spell can all tutor for Banishing Knack or Retraction Helix.
Tolaria West and Loyal Apprentice can tutor for a 0 cost artifact.
Trophy Mage, Loyal Inventor, and Drift of Phantasms can tutor for Battered Golem or Golem Foundry.
Loyal Inventor can tutor for Traxos, Scourge of Kroog, Battered Golem, and Golem Foundry.
Drift of Phantasms can tutor for Glaring Fleshraker.
Ethereal Usher can tutor for Steelfin Whale.
Trophy Mage, Drift of Phantasms, and Loyal Inventor can tutor for cost reducers.
With a God Hand this deck can win on turn 3 with Island, Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Glaring Fleshraker, Welding Jar, Mirran Spy and Banishing Knack. Turn 1: Island-Sol Ring-Arcane Signet. Turn 2: Glaring Fleshraker Turn 3: Mirran Spy-Welding Jar-Banishing Knack (target Glaring Fleshraker). Tap Glaring Fleshraker to return the Welding Jar to hand. Recast Welding Jar and trigger Mirran Spy to untap and trigger Glaring Fleshraker, creating an Eldrazi Spawn, which triggers Glaring Fleshraker again to deal one damage to each opponent. Repeat this process until all opponent's life totals are zero.
This is highly unlikely to ever occur but the deck can routinely pull off a version of this combo by turns 7-8. It serves as a good example of how the combo operates.
This combo could be accomplished with Sai, Master Thopterist or Golem Foundry replacing Glaring Fleshraker but the creatures created would be summoning sick until Turn 4.
Emry, Lurker of the Loch functions slightly differently. Welding Jar-Tormod's Crypt-Mishra's Bauble-Delif's Cone must be sacrificed and then recast from the graveyard.
Cost reducers can allow any artifact to become a main combo piece, but self sacrificing artifacts are needed for Emry, Lurker of the Loch combos. Loyal Inventor, Drift of Phantasms, and Trophy Mage can tutor for Thermal Navigator and cost reducers.
Crystal Skull, Isu Spyglass-Reality Chip-Mystic Forge allow artifacts to be played from the top of the library. This allows you to dig for combo pieces. Cards that allow you to scry, draw or remove cards from the top of the library will allow you to keep digging, especially with cost reducers in play. Time your tutors, if you can, to shuffle after you find a card on top you can't play. Moonsilver Key can tutor Crystal Skull, Isu Spyglass.
Glaring Fleshraker with Sai, Master Thopterist and Skullclamp in play will essentially draw you two cards for every artifact played. Glaring Fleshraker and Forensic Gadgeteer will draw you one card for each artifact played.
This deck can function as a midrange token deck until you find the combo. Save your counter magic to protect your combo, if able. Understand the pieces of the combo and find them as quickly as possible. All pieces have at least some redundancy, Banishing Knack and Retraction Helix are the hardest to work without. Torrential Gearhulk can recur one of these spells, Ethereal Usher can tutor for it. If these are lost only the back up combo remains.
Semblance Anvil and Ugin, the Ineffable are amazing cost reducers. If able, sacrifice an artifact creature to Semblance Anvil. This is will cheapen your tutor creatures as well as your artifacts. Ugin, the Ineffable can be useful for top deck manipulation and removal. Be cautious using his +1 ability blind as you may lose a combo piece.
I've put a lot of time and energy into this deck. It's been through many iterations. The goal was a strong deck for under $50, using TCG Player market pricing. This does not include shipping or basic lands. At the time of my last edit to this deck it was just over $49. I feel this would do very well at a budget table and hold its own at a casual to high power casual table.
