I'm pretty sure that in monoblack+colorless there is nothing else, only Mishra's Groundbreaker, and that one is a horrible card to boot. this 2-card combo has probably no place in a deck like this. Too inefficient.

The only sensible thing that comes to mind is keeping a couple Caustic Rain VS Darksteel Citadel heavy environments.

I don't particularly like casual decks in a way, because they exploit the mtg community by playing with banned cards. If you could make a deck like this that was legal in Modern, it would definitely get a +1
November 18, 2016 9:47 a.m.
IAmTheWraith Well yes, that tends to be the point of casual decks. Unfortunatly, this deck cannot work without Sinkhole, Strip Mine or Black Vise. For modern, I would try a mono red approach, using the newest land destuction cards and then burning the opponent.

Snap157 mono-red seems like a good option with things like Structural Distortion

Is Nykthos useful in this? Seems like only the 10 enchantments give any devotion to black. Otherwise, looks cruel and effective.

I just want to say that I love this deck, and that from the look of it most normal decks don't stand much of a chance against it.
That being said, I think the deck below just might stand a chance, due to it being completely unconventional.

ShayneAustin Thank you! Decks like yours are actually the reason for my entire sidebored! Believe it or not, there is almost no artifact hate in black that doesn't involve creature sacrifice, (i.e. Phyrexian Tribute), so I included Languish, Mutilate and Black Sun's Zenith to take care of any creatures with toughness above 4, and then added in a set of Duress to take care of things like Grindclock before they leave the hand. That being said, I am unsure as to what would kill someone first- the slow Underworld Dreams or Temporal Extortion or the occational Memnite or Myr Enforcer slipping through. I'm certainly eager to playtest! Thanks for thinking of new situations to test this deck!

I play tested them against each other a few times without the sideboards, pretty much unless your deck played Black Vise in the first turn or two, my deck dominated, however if your deck did get Black Vise out fast enough it was a close call as to whether or not my deck could survive long enough to start doing anything. Still need to try play testing them with your sideboard swapped in though.
I can definitely see the Illness in the Ranks being a problem for my deck, as it makes the Hangarback Walker effect next to useless. Both Languish and Mutilate would clear my field of creatures easily, so they would be a problem. Honestly, the card that worries me most in your sideboard is Duress, as my entire deck is artifacts, and 42 of those are non-creatures, an early Duress could really be a problem, especially if you hit one of the mana producing artifacts right off the get-go.
How do you use the Phyrexian Tribute without any creatures?
December 14, 2016 7:37 a.m.
Thats the thing- I can't use Phyrexian Tribute because I don't have creatures. Your deck and artifact decks like it are the reason for my sidebored, and I'm not surprised that yours had the upper hand without it. Good luck on the I'll test it with the sideboard swapped, I'll let you know how it turns out ;)

I just goldfished it and I blew up my own lands. It lost. Sorry guy.
December 14, 2016 9:58 a.m.
xeotech cool! What do you mean by blew up your own lands? What kind of deck did you use? Why would you get rid of your own mana?
December 14, 2016 10:03 a.m.
Turn 1: Swamp, Dark Ritual Sinkhole targeting my own Swamp.
December 14, 2016 10:07 a.m.
xeotech so you basically made yourself lose. I think its safe to say that while the deck isn't unbeatable, It has always won when the player is actually trying to prevail against their opponent.

Snap157, how would you sideboard against my deck, I am trying to make the play tests accurate. So far this is what I have. Removed 4 Rain of Tears, 4 Sinkhole, 2 Blight, 4 Liliana's Caress. Added in 4 Duress, 4 Illness in the Ranks, 4 Languish, 2 Black Sun's Zenith. Tempted to take 4 Innocent Blood and put in 4 Mutilate.
December 14, 2016 12:47 p.m.
ShayneAustin I would take out 4 Rain of Tears, 4 Sinkhole, 2 Blight, 4 Liliana's Caress, and 4 Strip Mine. I would add in 2 Duress, 2 Illness in the Ranks, 4 Swamp, 4 Mutilate and 4 Elixir of Immortality, and 2 Inquisition of Kozilek. Let me know how it goes!

I ran the tests before you added the Elixir of Immortality and Inquisition of Kozilek, and our decks went 4-3 with your deck taking the lead. Did notice the the Black Vise wasn't working for your deck unless it was in the opening hand, would consider siding that out as well. After the side boarding, the Underworld Dreams became something of a nightmare, what with both of us running Howling Mine, my deck was losing more life than it could hope to regain with the Elixir of Immortality. Why did you add Elixir of Immortality to your deck, when mine runs Tormod's Crypt to combat that type of card?

Scratch that, just tested it, the Elixir of Immortality was a great move. This version of your deck (with the new sideboard) is rather effective.

ShayneAustin cheers man, thanks for testing. I really appreciate finding the new ways to play and try new decks, and your deck is certainly a cool one. Let me know if you need any help or advice in the future, I'd be happy to help
