I <3 control.
This reminds me of so many constructed decks I've played in the past, and looks to be the front-runner for my favorite deck to play in the pauper format.
This Tron deck and other tron lists similar to it are the premier control decks in the format. This deck is looking to stall, play early interaction, and use card filtering and draw to take itself into the endgame like any other good control deck in Magic's history. Eventually this deck gains a ridiculous mana advantage thanks to the Urzatron land package and abuses this mana to make over-the-top value plays to get the victory.
Point of order: there are some tron lists in pauper that are more all-in on assembling Tron as quickly as possible. To that end they run full suites of
Chromatic Star
,
Chromatic Sphere
,
Expedition Map
, and
Ancient Stirrings
among others. Once they get a quick Tron online they rush out massive threats like
Ulamog's Crusher
and
Fangren Marauder
to go hard in the paint.
This deck is more concerned about its colored mana and likes to play the longer game. It welcomes an early Tron but is usally not in a rush to assemble it. Once online though, this deck runs powerful value engines in
Mnemonic Wall
,
Mulldrifter
,
Pulse of Murasa
, and
Ghostly Flicker
.
Mystical Teachings
is at its strongest in a deck like this, with lots of silver bullets and card advantage to fetch.
Capsize
locks are not uncommon, and
Moment's Peace
is an important way to stave off the beats as there are not any real sweepers in the format.
There are lots of flex slots in these controlling styles of Tron decks especially in the sideboard. This version is more Temur focused with lots of red removal and a red finisher in
Rolling Thunder
, while some are sultai focused with
Crop Rotation
and an emphasis on the
Dinrova Horror
late game. All of them seem like a blast to play if you enjoy control as much as I do!
