The same concerns came up when testing began on this idea. They are valid concerns lagotripha. It is difficult and counterintuitive to let go of the classic burn staples. Could the retrace effect of Flame Jab make up for the higher damage of Lightning Bolt? The simple answer is yes. These "ping damage" cards improve the deck.
The ping abilities of Goblin Fireslinger, Scorched Rusalka, Grim Lavamancer, Impact Tremors, Viashino Pyromancer, Keldon Marauders and Flame Jab multiply exceptionally well with both The Flame of Keld and Quest for Pure Flame. This is because they get tokens faster for Quest for Pure Flame and they create more instances of damage for The Flame of Keld to add to.
If all this sounds unbelievable, please playtest the deck a few times. Usually lethal damage occurs between turns 4-6. The math allows about 10-100 damage dealt!
Remember that The Flame of Keld adds 2 damage to each source for one turn; and Quest for Pure Flame doubles each source of damage. Multiple copies of Quest for Pure Flame have a compounding effect.

Having run a few playtests on a copy, I'm really liking Electrostatic Field/Firebrand Archer, Hellspark Elemental and an instant/sorcery discard theme, with Cathartic Reunion- I'm considering a blue splash for Secrets of the Dead/cantrips or a green splash for the omni-present Life from the Loam. Burning Vengeance didn't work out, but Risk Factor looks like an all-star.
Thinking of mixing it with a Spellweaver Helix list to get that sweet Flame Jab/Worldfire value.
I gave some thought to an 'incidental damage' goblins list looking to burst with Goblin Grenade, but it looked too fragile after some tests without morphing into something unrecognisable.

At Friday Night Magic with 8-Flame I had 1 victory, 2 losses. It was difficult to keep up with decks that try to win by turns 3-5, but eventually I got the kills against a Thing in the Ice Flip Izzet control deck! So far 8-Flame has performed best against control because it's hard to keep so many low cost cards off the board.

I like the premise, but I feel the lack of 'burst' damage to take advantage of that flame is a little awkward- sure its doubling your chip damage, but classic Lightning Bolt would still have a good showing, and looking for a Grapeshot turn to trigger quest is pretty legit (any 3 spells and shot). I'd consider looking at the new jump-start cards, Burning Vengeance and Fiery Temper. It should be a pretty powerful engine which doesn't care about you discarding your hand.
