8 Rack Ascention

Modern Mono-Black

Nordlys

Sideboard

Combines the power of Bloodchief Ascension with the core of an 8Rack deck.

Objectives

  • make opponent lose 2 life whenever possible

  • discard opponent's hand

  • deal with board threats

Cards that fulfill multiple tasks are highly prioritized.

  • A good example is Collective Brutality which is a card doesn't quite meet the requirements for a normal 8rack deck, but since this version of the deck takes great advantage of the 2 life-point loss in here this card excells.

  • Another example is Vicious Rumors which is not as good the previous card, but it still does discard our opponent and deals a single point of damage to their face, which combined with Geth's Verdict or Smallpox or even Leechridden Swamp to deal 2 in total.

  • An amazing turn-3 or late-game spell is Demogorgon's Clutches which does everything we want: deals 2 damage to charge our Bloodchief Ascension while also discarding two cards (which is not only usefull for The Rack but also to trigger Bloodchief's ability once it's charged).

Synergies

Do not forget

  • Bloodchief Ascension will get a counter if an opponent has lost 2 or more life each turn, independently of any possible lifegain. So if he losses 2 life and then gains 6 (+4 total difference) our enchantment will still get the counter.

  • The best card to self-discard to our own Smallpox or to our escalated Collective Brutality is Nether Spirit . The second best card to be discarded is Raven's Crime since we can still use it from our graveyard. The third option would probably be a land (maybe a second copy of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth which would count as a dead card in our hand.

  • Our top curve is 3 mana, but it wouldn't hurt to get 4 lands in play since we will often have to spend mana to activate Mishra's Factory or Leechridden Swamp

  • Opponent's playing colors that can deal with enchantments will bring all their hate for the second match to destroy or Ascentions. That's where Imp's Mischief (in the sideboard) will do it's magic protecting our enchantment. We'll have to chose a valid target for their spells, preferably an opponent's Sagas or anything, but sometimes they won't have a valid target and we'll have to activate our Mishra's Factory as a martyr target. Another strategy would be to replace all our Bloodchief Ascension for the full set of Dauthi Voidwalker , thus making them hold onto their Disenchants for a card that we won't even be playing; hopefully, they also took out all of their removal and have no ways to deal with the Voidwalker.

That's all. Thanks for reading!
