Hi there, it may cost too much but have you considered Alhammarret's Archive ?

Yeah, like Wave said, Alhammerret's Archive seems like it could be very beneficial in this deck. It may be a bit too expensive to play consistently, but exponentially increasing your wheels seems like a decent idea, at least at first. There's the very real possibility of your decking yourself with it if you aren't careful.

Without any stax elements, is this just a worse version of godo? What's the trade off between playing your list vs godo?

That's where I got stuck with Neheb. Building it as an all in combo deck just felt worse, and where you're heading is more resilient but doesn't have the stax pieces or disruption to defend itself which is why I started liking the stax-ish brews more. Great to hear your 2c.

davidEdhDecks To be a “worse” version of Godo would entail that the decks are remotely similar. These lists feature completely different strategies, though they share a similar win con. Godo is fragile and predictable. Neheb is not. There’s a resilience to a Commander that allows you to simultaneously Loot for answers and Ramp at the same time, as opposed to a one-trick pony. Let’s not kid that Godo has any other secrets up his sleeve. Should anyone decide to Praetor's Grasp your Helm of the Host , you’re cooked.

I will admit, I feel Neheb is about 95% as is. His strategy does not allow us the luxury of setting up Stax pieces as we go along. Well, at least not easily. However, in all aspects, he is far more resilient to our Barbarian friend. There are Pros and Cons to either list. Once I’ve settled on a definitive build, I’ll test his success against my Godo list. However, I can state that without a doubt he is a far more enjoyable Commander to Pilot and will only grow better with time. -Patrick

WaveAmbassador / araconos - I'm not too high on Almasdljalds's Archive, for a few reasons... The name is silly. Two, it's 5 cmc for a do nothing card. When you cast this, you're hoping the board will let you successfully get damage in and begin Neheb's Looting Effect. When it lands, it's great! However, it is asking a lot... I think it is certainly worth a look, but truth be told... I would rather run more cards like Assault Strobe to give Neheb Double Strike in a pinch and go off on that. 1cmc, more (Commander) damage, more mana and (roughly) the same amount of cards in return. That's how I feel about Almarknksdkb's Archive.

I am making a similar deck I would consider running [alhammarret's archive]

April 30, 2019 2:59 p.m.

aikeblah I would consider Blood Mist before I threw this card in the deck. However, I understand why folks like it. I do not see it being very successful. The fact that it works off of our Loots/Wheels alongside Neheb is nice, but I would much consider more mana efficient “Double Strike” granting cards first. Whatever route you take, best of luck with the build. -Patrick

If its used as a followup to Neheb it could be a huge enabler. I'm not saying its an auto include but it's worth testing.

Psychosis Crawler might work too i know id doesn't necessarily win, but it provides damage that can really add up, worth testing but not an auto include.

What do you think about Paradox Engine, with the plethora of mana rocks?

April 30, 2019 6:26 p.m.

davidEdhDecks says... #11

Is it then fair to say that this is more of a midrange deck with a combo finish? That's the mindset we should take when playing it?

May 2, 2019 8:19 a.m.

WaveAmbassador - Testing

aikeblah - I wish it had Haste... I think the deck currently needs more Draw/Loot solutions. Though the plan with Crawler is definitely plausible, maybe not totally in line with the deck strategy.

Archontes - I’m not sure we have the Mana Rocks sufficient for Paradox Engine to work here. If you went a separate strategy, making this a Shell Deck for Godo, perhaps Paradox would be good. We actually don’t have much Mana troubles from turn-to-turn, it’s most Draw/Looting we need assistance with at this point. Need to pull through more of the deck.

davidEdhDecks - At this point, yes. You should average a win around 3-4, or 4-5 given an Extra Turn. With that in mind, I may be altering the deck to feature one or two more (mana efficient) Stax options.

Psychosis crawler would be a good early game if you don’t draw into optimal hands Or an opponent has a death touch out, but at that point, if we are looking for solutions to certain metas, might have to incorporate more stax pieces like land type stax since you already have a mana generator with neheb, at which point, also may include the other neheb, at which point.

Any thoughts on Tectonic Reformation from horizons? Seems like a good way to use the mana from neheb to filter out more dead draws. I'd imagine this is an upgrade for something like Cathartic Reunion

June 18, 2019 4:11 a.m.

AntF86 - That’s not a bad idea... Almost similar to Magmatic Insight though, which is slightly more effective on a rampage... However, I don’t mind it here. I feel the Land count is a bit low for this to truly go off. I’ll test it! How bout that? I intend to put it in a list I’m working on, so I’ll have a copy anyways.

DragonLordJippy 3 mana into the first card definitely feels pretty bad, it feels like a card you want to play first main phase/the turn before you go off, which I know in the video you counted against Alhammarret's Archive . Hopefully for 2 mana investment we get a better return here. Let me know how the testing goes!

Hey! I noticed a couple changes to the deck! Notably the inclusion of goblin welder and his brother and Brain in the Jar! What are the new additions here adding to the deck! This is my favorite deck I've made and I'm just curious on what your thought process is behind the new additions!

June 23, 2019 8:09 p.m.

Redrum060

Hey to you too! Deck has changed quite a bit actually, haha. These recent changes were crucial... Strategies I developed when brewing prototype Krenko and Kiki-Jiki lists that made there way here. I'll start with Brain in a Jar , it (currently) has 36 targets and helps us cheat out spells at instant speed for 1 Generic. It flows perfectly with our curve and helps us if we're red deficient to cast the multitude of R and RR spells featured here. It also makes our Rituals that much better. Goblin Welder messes with our opponents and during the multiple Attacks and (more importantly) Untaps, we can use him to ramp through our Graveyard (with various pitched Rocks), allowing us to continue Wheeling and Attacking with added Mana, carrying over leftovers from Neheb. Furthermore, it can recur and replay Memory Jar and if you have ever played Mem Jar twice in one turn... It's a feeling like nothing else. Same story for Goblin Engineer , Ramp and Entomb for: Obsidian Battle-Axe , Mask of Memory & Swiftfoot Boots . You may have missed these, but I will also encourage you add: Flamekin Harbinger and Sarkhan's Triumph . One will tutor for Grinning Ignus or Generator Servant to help us Ramp early-to-mid game, should Neheb be foiled or need a boost; while Triumph is an instant speed, Tutor for Runehorn Hellkite (and sometime's Knollspine Dragon ): grab the Dragon on the turn before you Attack, ditch the Dragon on the Attack and have a Wheel in your Graveyard. Hope this bit of intel helps. This are what I would consider must includes now... Also, expect an update to the primer here soon to further explain the Cards chosen. I may even provide a video update to discuss this list. Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion is a Deck to look out for.

Bag of holding was just spoiled. So, yea... looks like an auto include.

June 25, 2019 8:34 a.m.

Jsc149

Yeah. I mulled it over just the once... It is a 110% auto-include. It does everything we want for the list. There aren't any cards that benefit the Player from "Whenever you Discard a Card," and now we have two: Bag of Holding & Glint-Horn Buccaneer. Glint-Horn is an excellent Looter with the ability to pile on massive damage during our multiple Combat Phases. How many cEDH lists use Life as a resource? All of them? Yeah, let's put a stopper on that.

Did a 2020 sealed event and got a foil bag of holding, the only card I really wanted. One card I think you should consider in the case the game goes longer is cavalier of flame. It’s a little expensive at 2RRR but it combos with glint horn and if you have a sac outlet land like high market and you have looted through a bunch of lands, you can pull off a win out of nowhere. I think it may be cost probibitive though and would be perfectly synergistic in a high powered meta, but it could make the build a little less glass cannony and still provide value outside of combo territory.

Jsc149 says... #22

Also, with the mention of cavalier needing lands in the graveyard, we have so many sac lands, let’s add lotus field to the picture. Hexproof and you sac lands.

July 6, 2019 2:02 p.m.

Jsc149

I considered Cavalier, the issue is what I would consider him for. The nearest equivalent I could think of was Khorvath's Fury , which I believe is a much stronger Card. 1. It nets us a "wheel" +1, replacing itself; and 2. Can avg. in the same amount of damage from it's Foe Effect. That is unless the game goes long and we are of course Discarding numerous Lands along the way (and have some manner of "Sac" outlet for him, which my list doesn't run)... I am still considering Cavalier, but do not have a slot for him yet. I'm currently on vacation, with the nearest Comic Store (holding events) an hour and twenty minutes away! I may have to go. Also, congratulations on the Foil Bag of Holding ! So envious right now, haha.

How would you feel about Insult / Injury in this deck? Not exactly a double strike effect, but, definitly a way to sink some extra damage across the table. Also, can be fired from the yard to do some clean up work. At sorcery speed it may seem a little slow, but, this card hits like thunder when the ball starts rolling. If you factor in any number of "Christmas" scenarios, i.e. double strike effects, or copying it from the bin on the same turn, it could cut the need for combat steps down.

Any thoughts on Fists of Flame as an instant for 2nd combats? Cantrips itself too.
