This is so true for me. BUG is my lucky tri-color. I have always done well with it. I have drafted it at nearly half a dozen times, and I have ran it at various pre-releases; each time landing in the top three, and winning two of the fore mentioned pre-releases.
The deck performed well. I went 4-0. Here is the breakdown:
BUG: 2-0 W. This was a mirror match that went in my favor. I murdalized all the things and won via mill
Dimir Cruel Control: 2-1 W. Now, you may think that the one round loss shatters any perception of "undefeated". However, when you consider that on round 2 I had two lands in hand and decided to keep and no lands came for five turns, it wasn't even a round. I scooped and went on to round three. Honestly, this was the toughest match up of the night. Round one was quite close. Round three, I swung with a 26/26 Consuming Aberration and I stretched the guy's asshole to the max.
Jund Midrange: 2-0 W. I obliterated the guy both rounds by killing his things, milling him with Jace, Memory Adept and Consuming Aberration and swinging for lethal with the aberration.
Azorius Enchantments: 2-0 W. First round was a hollow victory as my opponent got land screwed. Round two, my deck ran smooth and punished him. Everything he had that hit the field never lived long enough to attack. I did him in with a combo of two -3 effects from Vraska the Unseen which destroyed a hella enchanted Fiendslayer Paladin and an Elspeth, Sun's Champion; both of them receiving zero chance to tickle my goody hole.
There you have it. I threw this deck together on a whim, and it turned out great. However, if you must know, the deck's weakness is heavy aggro. My girlfriend spanked my ass with a mono-red deck, and after multiple games I found out that until I develop a sideboard to handle such a thing the deck will never stand a chance. That being said, I have no sideboard so please help!
If you are into me breaking down the individual components, then read on. If not, then have a nice day friends!
Let's examine the components:Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a low cost planeswalker that is relatively tough to kill if you get her out turn three. The +2 counter is a nice option. The deck thinning is totes cool, also.Jace, Architect of Thought nerfs your opponents stuff and has good utility in his other two abilities. Jace, Memory Adept, my personal favorite planeswalker, can give you cards or mill your opponent. He is a strong win con for this deckKiora, the Crashing Wave is a big target. No one wants their opponent to have krakens, so anytime that I have had her out there, she doesn't last long. More than anything, I put her out there to try and take the heat off of my life total.Vraska the Unseen is baller because her counters are high and she is difficult to kill because of her plus one cock blocking many creatures. With this deck, your opponent won't have many creatures to begin with so they will have to choose whether to hit her to damage or kill her and lose their creature. And, they will weep tears of sadness. And using her assassin tokens to win is a satisfaction that is unparalleled by any other.
The creatures: They don't serve a super purpose within this deck. The creatures that I most commonly use as a win con are the Consuming Aberration and the Pack Rat. The others are just there and can contribute by being bodies to block with and sizable threats that my opponent is forced to deal with,
