Karador has long been my favorite commander, but after taking a break from Magic from roughly Theros to Shadows Over Innistrad and having no regular EDH group for far longer than that, the deck ended up long since being disassembled. Now that I'm back to playing, I knew that I wanted a high-quality Karador build that could act as my go-to deck for any given game. While Boonweaver Combo lists would certainly be the most competitive option, I've instead opted for a classic enter-the-battlefield build, allowing me to play with a large variety of powerful cards that should keep the game interesting both for myself and my opponents.

Updates Add

It's been a while since I've done a formal update for this deck, and notably it still remains incomplete: eight cards are still missing, with substitutes in their places while I've fallen off the trend of actually buying EDH cards. In the past ~9 months I have played a number of games and I've noticed a couple important things:

  • It's powerful enough that it dominates the table in my casual group.
  • It's weak enough that it rolls over in competitive games.
  • There's enough tutoring to easily find combo pieces, but I often struggle to find actual win conditions and sacrifice outlets.

The result is a deck that is both too weak and too strong, and even in the latter case I find myself often having weirdly slow wins as I've shut down the table but can't actually kill them. Suffice to say a decent rework is incoming, and I'm just in the process of deciding how. Another update coming soon!
