When the Commander 2016 generals were revealed, the one that jumped out at me was Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis as I've long been interested in the idea of group hug but never particularly liked the choices available to me. They're such a great option, in fact, that they can fuel a number of potent strategies, making it difficult to decide on what kind of deck to actually build. Thankfully, I got the answer to my question from The Command Zone's episode on Stalwart Unity when they commented that they don't feel powerful if you can't play that extra land every turn. There's my answer: focus on the ramp!

The goal of this deck is simple: use group hug-style cards to fuel your consistent ramp via K&T, then once the time is right go for the win with cards like Genesis Wave , Molimo, Maro-Sorcerer and Banefire that reward having all that mana. Having nearly half the deck be land allows you to actually use that second land drop on a regular basis, while there are plenty of hug and prison cards included to help keep attention off you while you develop your board. Your opponents get the fun of drawing lots of cards, you get a credible way to actually kill everyone without relying on infinite combos. Win-win!

Updates Add

It's been entirely too long since I've done some updates to my EDH decks, so with the release of as hype a set as Dominaria I think it's about time. I'll be starting with K&T since the deck isn't changing too much:

OUT - Animist's Awakening, Avenger of Zendikar, Baral's Expertise, Gahiji, Honored One, Kefnet the Mindful, Kirtar's Wrath

IN - Hour of Promise, Jaya's Immolating Inferno, Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar, Sylvan Awakening, Tatyova, Benthic Druid, Wakening Sun's Avatar

Most of the removals are cards that I haven't enjoyed much within the deck, while Kirtar's Wrath gets swapped out for the similar Wakening Sun's Avatar because dinosaur. As for the additions, Hour is a very strong land tutor, Tatyova offers ridiculous value for doing what this deck does anyway, Multani is another strong land-matters creature, and the Inferno and Awakening are two more potential win conditions.

Going forward I have two primary concerns: does the deck need more protection (particularly counters), and do the win conditions make sense. Generally it's been working well, but going all-in on the Genesis Wave plan has led to a few feel-bad moments like when I don't get a haste enabler, and I've gotten surprisingly few opportunities to try back-up plans like Banefire. If it plays well enough I'll probably keep it as-is, but I'm not discounting the possibility of another rework to further refine the gameplan.
