This is the latest (and hopefully best) version of my main Pauper deck. It's a somewhat straightforward mono-black control deck with lots of life drain as well as several creatures with deathtouch to defend, push through some damage and to help get back the monarch if you happen to lose it.
I’ve also experimented with
Spinning Darkness
and I'm more pleased with it than I thought I'd be, as it’s basically a colorshifted
Lightning Helix
that it’s possible to cast for free.
Recently, I've replaced the playset of
Chainer's Edict
with
Geth's Verdict
, as the latter is faster and helps chip away at our opponent; and I hardly ever found myself flashing back the former.
The sideboard plan is fairly simple. Switch out
Defile
,
Snuff Out
and
Spinning Darkness
for playsets of
Duress
and
Dash Hopes
in the control matchup.
Against Tron, I've taken to boarding out Spinning Darkness for two copies of
Choking Sands
, which I should probably make three. Its not the most reliable answer, but if you can go
Dark Ritual
into Choking Sands on turn one, then stick another Choking Sands anytime in the next few turns, its usually lights out for Tron.
Any other matchups, I tend to play it by ear. The deck is already quite good against most creature-heavy decks.
I’m feeling pretty good about this current build, but I'm sure that more regular Pauper players will still be able to suggest ways to improve the deck. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, thanks.
