Updates Add

This will be my last update since I will be making this deck into a Jund Monsters list in the next two weeks.

I took second at the Journey Game Day. I went 5-0 in the swiss rounds without dropping a single game. Matches were against Naya Hexproof, Junk Midrange, Rakdos Flyers, B/G Devotion, and G/W Aggro. I played the Rakdos Flyers and G/W Agro again in the quarterfinals and semifinals, going 2-1 and 2-0, respectively. I faced Jund Monsters in the finals and lost in a decisive 0-2.

This deck can navigate most FNM's and low-level tournaments with ease. The matchup against mono black is about even, though the post-board game favors them slightly. Unanswered Pack Rats win the game, though, Setessan Tactics is an ALL STAR at dealing with Pack Rat! Desecration Demon also yields problems, but you usually have enough power on the field to initiate a race. Multiple Thoughtseize into multiple Lifebane Zombies are going to wreck you no matter what, so you just have to accept that some of their hands are darn-near unbeatable.

Esper control is also slightly favored post-board, so the impetus is to kill them fast! The U/W matchup is more even than Esper. America Control is the worst of the bunch - I have a great record in this matchup, though that deck is still developing. As always, Elspeth is a massive pain since this deck lacks spot-removal for plainswalkers and her -3 can clear a board.

This deck is fantastic against aggro decks. Sure, you can still lose with a slow hand or if your opponent had a great hand, but I'm feeling pretty good when my opponent is sporting W/x aggro. I also feel comfortable against hexproof decks and Junk Midrange. Hexproof thrives on taking down decks with heavy spot-removal and has a harder time when my big creatures can actually trade with their enchanted fatties. The chances of winning increase drastically if Hexproof can't kill you in less than 8 turns. Junk Midrange feels even to me so long as I have an answer to Archangel of Thune. Blood Baren isn't scary since it dies to Mortars can't stare down Polukranos. Again, Elspeth is a massive pain, but not as bad as control.

Now, I will agree that Jund Monsters is a better deck. The mirror is brutal. Jund's sideboard is a LOT more flexible. Hard matchups like mono blue and esper and made considerably better post board. If you have the money or the cards, I recommend Jund over R/G monsters.

So, why play R/G Monsters? Because you like ramping into fatties!
