@ metalevolence They are mostly there for chump-blocking with a little lifegain in emergencies. I've always kind of had a soft spot for them, too.

Deeeerp. I just realized it wouldn't help me much because Merrow Commerce happens at the end of the turn, and the +1/+1's that Wake Thrasher would get only last until the end of the turn.

You might be vulnerable to token decks, especially if they are using Doubling Season , or Parallel Lives and Intangible Virtue . Maybe consider Detention Sphere ?

@ DevilsAdvocate I haven't playtested this against any token decks yet.. But that is an interesting point and idea. It could possibly take Oblivion Ring 's spot, and I'd have to get a few copies. Thanks for commenting!

@ Xindlepete Eeeeeep. I have lots of ideas, I just haven't built any new decks lately because I haven't totally acquired all the cards for this one yet.. Every time I go to buy cards towards my deck I see a bunch of totally random cards I want for my collection and end up buying those. Guess I better get off my ass and build, eh?

I really like the deck but Purity seems really out of place here.

Cavern of Souls is an awesome land card for any creature based decks! especially for multi-colored ones! (:

It's not worth it to run white in fish. Drop it entirely along with the singleton 6 drops and the bad enchantment (Dissipation Field). Tideshaper Mystic is also bad and Merfolk Sovereign needs to be Coralhelm Commander .

Also something needs to be said about you trying to run Wall of Denial in aggro. Because, you know, a defender is totally what you want.

your running white and not using Path to Exile ? seems weird that you would want white in a fish deck anyway but not having path is just wrong. also no Mutavault and you dont need to much counter your looking to be the beat down deck so try adding something like AEther Vial for combat tricks.

You're missing one of the point of AEther Vial in fish, then. Fish does indeed run counters and runs them because AEther Vial can allow them to.

A lot of people ask me why I put Purity in, also the Goldenglow Moth .. I guess I just wanted to be a bit different than most Merrow decks, but as I go on I just end up getting closer to the mainstream..

@ bman5604 Path to Exile is something I'd definitely like to try in the future, as soon as I get some time to tinker with this deck a bit I'll give it a shot. As far as AEther Vial that's a matter of money- specifically lack thereof, hahaha. It's something I hope to own eventually.

Having a different deck with your own idea's isnt wrong, dont let that bman guy push you around, he tried the same stuff on me.

Also nothing wrong with main streaming. Merfolk is a solid deck that has a solid home in modern

@ TrumpetsforKings Wake Thrasher as well as Coralhelm Commander are definitely still in the running, possibly as sideboard cards- I have to watch out for the interaction between Wake Thrasher and Merrow Commerce , though.

I vacillate between wanting to have a lot of variety to keep things interesting and fun while also realizing that you sacrifice consistency when you don't use playsets.

I suggest removing Psychic Barrier for another form of control, like more Mana Leak s or some of these control cards: Delay , Deprive , Spell Pierce and Muddle the Mixture .

With all of your merfolk, I really don't think Dissipation Field is a good idea. You won't have to worry about your opponents creatures doing damage to you when you have a massive army buff, unless you were playing against flying or token decks like these ones, Vampire's Regret and Kor Legions. Perhaps side-board it for those types a decks? Maybe Frozen AEther ? Though I'm not too sure how that would work well here ... perhaps just replace it with some more control, or even try out Counterbalance , but I think that is too costly.
