deathtouch_roadrunner I'm going to be playing Soul Sisters once i purchase it later this year for modern. Half because it's so cheap, and half because it is absolutely perfect for my playstyle. shamelessly plugs in a link to that deck

Just throwing out cards in mono white that i've always hated Sphere of Safety and perhaps more useful for you Holy Mantle unblockable 5/5 fabled hero turn 4 is just 10 damage I've always had to cringe at accepting.

Blind Obedience
would be a good sideboard agains control in my opinion, same idea as imposing sovereign, but allows you to extort, also survives verdict, as well as bounce cards, its not the greatest solution ever but its sound enough to perhaps do what you want.

Sphere of Safety doesn't fit the deck, thats for me of a control deck and not a deck hoping to win on turn five rather than play this.
Holy Mantle is too heavy of a card drop. Yes, i agree this is an amazing card but too slow for this deck at 4cmc. I might consider running it in the sideboard though for Gruul monsters.

derecksisco Imposing Sovereign I wouldn't be running in a control match up anyways. Blind Obedience at best would get me a few life, but nothing more i don't see how it would be a great option for control.

I just figured you could drop obedience on turn two and extort from there out, it doesn't matter if your spells are canceled at least they lost a life.

I think my query might have gotten lost in the flood. =P ...listing again, 'cause I'm really curious... --What do you think of Eidolon of Countless Battles in place of Spear of Heliod , here? Thankee! :)

Aldazar Although i do believe Eidolon of Countless Battles would work very well here i'd still rather the spear. Although at times drawing the spear won't be the best, it'll almost never be a bad play as that gives me some removal in a deck lacking any.
February 21, 2014 7:32 a.m.
Ah, an excellent point. I've not had that use for the spear be helpful to me as of yet, but I can how it could be of great use. Thanks for your thoughts. :)

May i say take Imposing Sovereign out please to much stuff can kill it. i am putting in Blind Obedience in its place since there are barely any enchantment destroy.

AlexanderSixsan You can run whatever you like. However, the case "too much stuff can kill it" really isn't an excuse i don't think. My entire deck is vulnerable to removal, a 600/600 Fabled Hero is nothing if they cast a Hero's Downfall in response to my attacking. But run whatever you like, personally i'd rather have an early beater as well. Two life can make all the difference.

Took deck to FNM went 2-3.
For starters I needed to deviate from the posted deck due to not having Fiendslayer Paladin . So I inserted 2 Eidolon of Countless Battles and 1 Hero of Iroas . I thought they would be useful with the 12 auras. Additionally, 1 do not have 2 Heliod, God of the Sun so I inserted 1 of my Brimaz, King of Oreskos . I know he is too expensive but luckily I was able to pull 2, so I wanted to see what he could do.Overall the deck worked well and showed that it could work in my Meta with some adjustments. For starters, way too much land. Every game except the very last one, I ended up with 6 or more land (if it ended up going that long). The last game I only had 2 land with 2 Banisher Priest in my hand and 2 Desecration Demon on the battlefield.
vs Mazes End
Deck worked like a champ and he didnt draw any green mana. After game 1 sideboarded 1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos for a Plains which I kept for all remaining games. Won 2-0.
vs Selesnya Aggro
Almost a mirror match. Mainly White with a splash of green. Both decks came out fast but couldnt compete with his Boros Elite and Loxodon Smiter . Lost 0-2.
vs White Aggro/Midrange
Looked very similar but wasnt as refined in its mission. Won 2-0.
vs Orzhov Midrange
Game 1: no 1 drop to be found so I couldnt compete with Obzedat, Ghost Council , Desecration Demon , Whip of Erebos and Pack Rat . Sideboarded in 3 Banisher Priest , 2 Revoke Existence , Heliod, God of the Sun , and Pithing Needle . Took out 2 Eidolon of Countless Battles ,Hero of Iroas , Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , 1 Plains , and a Fabled Hero . This left me with 61.
Game 2: got a 1 drop and Pithing Needle in opening hand. Worked like it should using a Banisher Priest to take out a Desecration Demon for the win.
Game 3: Went the way of game 1 but much closer. Lost 1-2.
vs Monoblack Devotion
Close games but again Whip of Erebos and Desecration Demon were too much. Sideboarded same as above but didnt change outcome. Lost 0-2.
- Hero of Iroas wasnt played so I dont know how well it would work but I can say that for those who have him, Brimaz, King of Oreskos worked well in the 3 drop spot.

If you were to add Eidolon of Countless Battles or Brimaz, King of Oreskos in, where would you put them? I love this deck, but I feel those two cards would make it unstoppable. I just don't know which cards to replace them with. I would say replace Eidolons for Eidolons, but that lifelink comes in handy. I'd even possibly say replace the Ethereal Armor for Eidolon of Countless Battles , yet even that doesn't feel right. Brimaz, King of Oreskos is even harder for me to figure out one to swap with, for some reason.

steadyeddie211 That's just the thing. There are so many cards that could work well in this deck, but the list is already so refined i don't know how i would even approach changing it more. Firstly, definitely not ediolon for eidolon as we need our one drop slots as that would drop us low on one drops and really high on three drops. Also Ethereal Armor is one of the best cards in this deck, it's what makes the best things possible so not that. I suppose if you really want to add either i would drop the Fiendslayer Paladin though i personally really wouldnt want to do that. But if you wanted i would try running two Brimaz, King of Oreskos in place of a fiendslayer and an ordeal.

I think you might do good to have Phalanx Leader in this deck, along with Hero of Iroas both of which greatly increase your creatures for less mana.

Hero of Iroas at the very best would let me bestow Hopeful Eidolon for cheap and Phalanx Leader I ran in here for a very long time, but after lots of testing found him to be simply not good. By saying that i mean he's not consistent, i want creatures that doesn't need support and will always be good. Every other creature in here can stand alone and be pretty good, where he is a 1/1 for two that is a dead draw late game.

Definite +1 from me. I'd like to see what you would take out when putting in any cards from your maybe board.

Will you keep mono white going after the Ravnica block goes out when its time comes? because i would love to keep it going people dont expect it! On 2/28/14 nobody seen it coming i beat Boros, Azorius, and Golgari but sadly losing to American Control, Still worked like a charm ;)

AlexanderSixsan Honestly, probably not. It's been a fun deck to play and all, but i'm not one to play the same deck for a long time. Come next standard season i'll brew up another deck to surprise the meta, but it'll be a lot different than this.
March 8, 2014 2:51 p.m.
Brimaz, the lion king of Oreos is a great 3 drop card and think he's a great addition.(why are the good ones all three drops???) I run a pair in my mono white, which is somewhat similar to yours. Would like to run three Brimaz, King of Oreskos , but certainly not paying those crazy prices for Mufasa. Was lucky enough to pull mine from packs.
Anyway, you've got a good deck building here and hope you're having a blast with it. Try Silence and see what you think.

Just saw your update. I did want to come by and at least mention that the draws and such of your deck were a bit off by the time things began to get recorded and that definitely stinks (I know from experience). In practice games that I did beforehand, I did end up winning a majority of the time - though many were close. And because of the absurdity that first game held on both ends I decided to not scrap things. So, hopefully you dont feel bitter about anything. It was a lot of fun piloting your deck!
What it came down to were the two things I mentioned in the afterthoughts of the article. I think the additional copies of brave the elements are a very welcomed change. And thanks for the mention :)
Best of luck to you in the future!

Yeah. To a certain extent manabases are a huge barrier to entry for all formats. It took me over a year to assemble a full playset of shock lands and even now I'm short a sacred foundry. To even get into modern would cost hundreds of dollars just to get fetch lands (unless you play Soul Sisters or maybe Dovescape). The only fairly cheap yet mostly playable duals are pain lands (which put you at a fairly big disadvantage in games that go past turn 4). Filter lands cost more than shocks these days... I feel like lands are getting so expensive that it's ruining the game for budget players.
