A fairly agressive GW allies list that uses ETB triggers and +1/+1 counters to do massive damage.

I've always loved the synergy of allies. I player a Bant mill list in Standard that was phenomenally fun to play, and now I've decided to try the tribe out in Modern. With Battle for Zendikar looming on the horizon, I can only hope that we'll get some cool tech to upgrade this deck with in the coming months.

The deck, outside of the lands, fits on a really tight budget as well, which is always a plus.

The deck itself comes down to play guys that help out other guys, and control the opponent's guys so they can swing through. Seems pretty straightforward. However, there are two key problems with the ally tribe:
  • Speed: Creatures can only be cast at sorcery speed, and so triggering allies as a combat trick can be hard. The solution to this is Collected Company, which solves this problem exactly. Getting down two more guys to pump or trigger Kabira Evangel can be really important, and having the option to end-step lethal damage in is very good.

  • Commitment: The ally tribe requires you to have a board presence to function, and so there is a lot of potential to lose card advantage to boardwipes and other removal. There isn't a lot you can do to fix this. The best is probably Kabira Evangel and a trick like Collected Company or Cloudshift in hand. Once I get the deck running more, I'll see if there are other workarounds.
Abzan Falconer: The counter lords from Khans are all pretty cool ideas. This one can find a home here to give my entire board evasion and swing in for lethal. Drawing this guy with threats on the board can close out a lot of games.

Hada Freeblade: This guy is the core of the deck. Hitting him early with followup or Hardened Scales on the field turns him quickly into a hard-to-handle threat.

Harabaz Druid: Lots of mana is rarely a problem. Having one of these down with a threat or two makes sure you have the mana for tricks or removal.

Kabira Evangel : The best way to protect your team. Brave the Elements on a potential blink trigger can be really useful.

Kazandu Blademaster : This guy is good even outside of an ally deck. Combine him with more triggers and Hardened Scales and you have a threat that absolutely has to be answered.

Mirror Entity: Counts as an ally and makes the team massive.

Ondu Cleric : For when you need to survive. I've found that even one of these guys can net you an astonishing amount of life in one game. He dies easily, but that's still removal that's taken away from your real threats.

Oran-Rief Survivalist : This guy is Hada Freeblade 5-8. Solid ability that just makes your creatures more consistent.

Talus Paladin : Really good utility, and can help stabilize a game.
Hardened Scales: Makes every creature in the deck twice as effective. Key piece to making the deck more competitive.

Dromoka's Command: Handles a lot of things. Get get Splinter Twin off the table, pump your guys, remove something silly. A versatile card that belongs in this deck.

Oblivion Ring: For when you just need to get rid of something.

Path to Exile: See Oblivion Ring.

Collected Company: The all-star of this deck. Makes the deck far more versatile by allowing you to trigger effects at instant speed.
Hada Freeblade + Hardened Scales : Doubles the effectiveness of your triggers. Works with almost every creature in the deck.

Harabaz Druid + Mirror Entity : Lots of mana makes giant creatures.

Collected Company + Kabira Evangel : Keeps the team safe at instant speed, assuming you hit at lesat one creature. The chances of not hitting on are below 5% (if I can do math correctly).
