No Ephara? Interesting. I think she is key for this deck. Maybe instead of Bident of Thassa .

She's formidable, but since a lot of this deck focuses on unblockability, she would be a less reliant card draw engine than the Bident. But thanks bro!

looks great +1

We tried her out previously, and here's why we removed her: this deck wins before she would even have a chance to swing. Since I'm only casting creatures on my turn her ability isn't as useful as adding multiple auras is, because then I can swing for lethal. Furthermore, with Aqueous Form I am able to control my draws anyway!

Have you thought about Brave the Elements ? For 1 mana it's like you're tapping out all the opponents creatures, then swing with all for lots of unblockable damage. Glimpse the Sun God + Phalanx Leader is a nice combo.

Cool idea, +1.

Yep! Used to run Brave the Elements , but the low creature count and the 12 Heroic creatures made me switch to Gods Willing since it adds +1/+1 counters and can still help get a big hit through, in case I haven't drawn an Aqueous Form yet!

Bestowing Eidolon onto itself is so stupid. And then making it unblockable? Good God, man.

Hopeful Eidolon turn one and then Ethereal Armor turn 2 and swing for 3 lifelink? personally i think you should replace Nyxborn Shieldmate with this.

Hopeful Eidolon used to be in our deck actually, so your advice is solid! In our playtesting though, we found that Hopeful Eidolon was ultimately more of a "win more" card, and that Nyxborn Shieldmate made this deck much faster. His bestow is cheaper, which makes all the difference in an aggro deck like this one, and his additional toughness boost makes Bestowing onto a Hero incredible, since it helps us outpace damage-based removal.

Normally I'm totally fine with it, but if you aren't even going to contribute to the discussion...

Not sure if should be mainboard -4 Detention Sphere ,

Great exile card but unless vs a player who you know will use multiples of the same card.

+4Pacifism low drop alternative,

+is a enchantment so buffs Ethereal Armor and Eidolon of Countless Battles

Pacifism doesn't stop activated abilities. Detention Sphere EXILES creatures OR other non-land permanents (God Weapons, and even non-activated Gods), and can wipe a Pack Rat army.

Detention Sphere , since it exiles, removes devotion as well. This is key to black and red deck and removing that helps a ton. Also it is any non-land permanent wich means it is a jack of all trades card. I run a aggro azarius deck and choose detention sphere over banishers. Also if you want to check out my version of azarius here is my page http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/azorius-weenie-aggro/

let me know what you think. :)

Been thinking of a deck like this myself, so looking forward to trying out your build! In your win condition scenarios, how are you getting Nyxborn Shieldmate and Hero of Iroas out on turn 2? Also, for your sideboard, have you considered Spell Rupture instead of Negate ? It would allow you to counter creatures too, and by the time you need it I'd be surprised if your opponent had more mana than your largest creature.

Hey mchestnut, thanks perusing my build! I am glad you brought that up, because I was apparently drunk on Magic at the time, and I have NO IDEA what I was thinking.

What do you suggest the land ratio to be if all we have is boring, basic land?

January 28, 2014 7:50 p.m.

ransom09 says... #20

Great question Pelops! I recommend 14 Plains, 8 Island, since we have 3 creatures with double-white costs, but we still need a good presence of blue for our sideboard! If you find a better combination, feel free to post it for the rest of us!

This may be the finest deck I've seen that really utilizes abilities from Theros. I played W/U midrange at the pre-release today and did rather well. Because of that, I have an urge to make a W/U midrange deck for standard... You sir have definitely given me my next project.

Even with bestow creatures falling off, with only 20 creatures in the deck it doesn't feel like you're going to get great value out of Phalanx Leader . The decks gameplan is to go big, not broad. These could all be worth testing - Battlewise Hoplite - another heroic, Hopeful Eidolon - 1 drop and bestow, Precinct Captain - good body and buffs up Eidolon of Countless Battles , Soldier of the Pantheon - 1 drop and protection, Imposing Sovereign - keeps blockers awkward when you don't draw Aqueous Form and Spirit of the Labyrinth - 3/1 is aggressive enough, it's an enchantment for Ethereal Armor and the ability could be relevant.

It might also be worth considering and testing Brimaz, King of Oreskos perhaps in the Fabled Hero slot. This seems contradictory considering this is a heroic deck, but basically enchanting up either one is going to end the game fast when unanswered, so having some draws that are solid on their own is not a bad backup plan when the voltron does get broken up.

DanSolo126 is currently running Battlewise Hoplite in his build, and we're still testing, but I'm partial to the utility that Phalanx Leader provides. Brimaz, King of Oreskos was actually the first card I took out of this deck, although he's great to be sure. He will definitely have his spot in Standard, but in this build, Fabled Hero gets the job done better. Yesterday, for example, i had a 5/7 Fabled Hero on turn 5, who swung for 18 (and lethal) on the following turn. He just gets too big, too fast, too consistently to swap out.

Born of Gods really does make Heroic possible. I love this deck, I made a similar Bant Heroic deck. +1 from me!
