+1, maybe Blood Artist would be helpful

Thanks, steeltrapp I will definitely try running it with some blood artists, it would be awesome against token decks, whenever they deal Phyrexian Obliterator some damage. Ill probably keep that in the sideboard

I would drop 2 Despise for 2 Thoughtseize . I love Tribute to Hunger but would drop it in favor of some Abrupt Decay (since you're already splashed)) and if not then perhaps Smother or Dismember .

Doesn't look like your deck get's advantage from having to +1 in order to build Lilly other than Surgical Extraction food. Could certainly use some card draw to speed things up. Phyrexian Arena Dark Confidant or Sign in Blood . Most decks in modern don't seem to be creature heavy, so too much removal is not always a good thing.

Well yeah, Id like 4x thoughtseize, but I really dont have the money to buy anymore copies. I was going to try to get confidant, but I ultimately i came to the same conclusion as thoughtseize. This isnt a budget deck by any means, but I cant throw down tons of money AT ONE TIME, and confidant is really the type of card to run 4 of. Phyrexian Arena is definitely a good suggestion though. I was thinking maybe Blood Scrivener has a place in here

I would honestly run Sign in Blood over that. simply because sign in blood acts that turn which could give u a significant advantage with a full hand, not just when your top decking.

If i still had sheoldred mainboarded i would use Altar's Reap , but Sign in Blood is probably better. I will probably mainboard Abrupt Decay , I have it in my standard deck but i had not considered it for this deck.

Maybe take out a little of your removal for Dash Hopes . Nothing says black control like a black counterspell :)

August 19, 2013 12:33 p.m.

8vomit says... #9

Ive used dash hopes a lot,and my issue with it is it allows them to negate my counter spell. I will test it out though and try it with Dash Hopes instead of Geth's Verdict

August 19, 2013 12:41 p.m.

if you need discard ideas/combos to add Demented Discard

Panda213 says... #11

Dash Hopes is a lot like Vexing Devil in that most times it wont end up being the spell you want it to be but BB for 5 damage isn't something your opponent will necessarily want either... just food for thought though :)

You could probably afford to squeeze 3 Geralf's Messenger in here if you were looking into that.

I'd cut 1 Surgical Extraction , 1 Lily and 1 Desecration Demon for them. The bleed on the messenger's death is nice, and if you end up trying to squeak in the Altar's Reap then you have a good target to sac. I'm yet to be sold on Altar's Reap though.

8vomit says... #13

But do you think its worth cutting one of each of them? Im not sure if he really has synergy with the rest of the deck. Also, what do you this about Maelstrom Pulse as apposed to Damnation ?

August 28, 2013 12:07 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #14

I probably wouldn't add the Messengers. They don't contribute anything but a little thorn in the side really.

Maelstrom Pulse is nice because it hits non-creatures too. I dunno, it seems like a very niche sideboard card, good against decks that spam tokens that are all the same, and good against certain non-creature spells that are a pain in your neck. But you have enough hand disruption mainboard that those instances shouldn't be too too much of a problem. Damnation is probably better for tokens anyway.

What about something to force your opponents into dealing with the Obliterator? I'm particularly thinking Deadly Allure . It's kind of narrow, but like I said, when your obliterator comes out you want him to have full effect. I suppose it's just as good to have a pseudo-unblockable 5/5 but wiping their board seems...cruel.

This is a pretty solid Rock deck, I'm really intrigued by the archetype lately. It's really just GB midrange/control. If you wanted to get techy you could look at Ulvenwald Tracker for forcing fights.

The obvious upgrades would be Goyfs and Bobs...in magical christmas land where everyone has money falling out of their butt...

I had also wondered as an outside insanity...would splashing Red for either Blightning and/or Domri Rade make sense? I'm thinking it's getting greedy when you have a pretty solid core as is.

August 28, 2013 12:46 p.m.

8vomit says... #16

Deadly Allure is an interesting suggestion, I may add that. I was actually considering splashing red too for Dreadbore , Terminate , and Blightning . Not too bigon domri rade though, he doesnt really fit the idea Im going for with this deck.

August 28, 2013 1:05 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #17

No, not enough creatures to make him viable. Red gives you access to Rakdos Charm for those pesky Splinter-Twin matchups too. Oh you have an infinite number of tokens? They all deal one damage to you. G2?

APPLE01DOJ says... #18

Maelstrom Pulse comes in handy when u really need it. Though a lot of the time it tends to be spot removal more-so than then the board wipe we want it to shine as.

U run DS so add some more fetches and u can use Terminate & Dreadbore without having to add a Blood Crypt I wouldn't make space for Blightning though. U have enough discard as it is and Lightning Bolt would be a better choice anyway.

August 28, 2013 7:52 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #19

Damnation really doesn't benefit you one bit. I would sideboard it and mainboard the pulse.

August 28, 2013 7:57 p.m.

8vomit says... #20

I asked a lot of people about maelstrom pulse as apposed to damnation, and most people told me damnation was the better choice. depends on the match up i suppose.

Why is Griselbrand in the sideboard? His hefty CMC doesn't do much for you without a reanimate type ability, IMO.

You could use some card draw like Phyrexian Arena , Dark Confidant , etc. to balance out Lily's self discard.

The lone Cavern of Souls is ok, however I think Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would be better. Even if you play alot of control, I still suggest you run Urborg.

September 10, 2013 3:53 p.m.

8vomit says... #22

I've been meaning to cut the Griselbrand down to 1x. He is a draw source for long games when I really need it.

I'm probably going to run Read the Bones once it is out. I considered Dark Confidant but with the number of 3 and 4 drop cards here, I dont have enough lifegain to compensate that. And I didn't want to drastically change the deck to better fit a card i would have to throw down like 300$ for a play set.

I dont see how Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would benefit me. I have nothing with swampwalk, and it doesnt tap for mana itself.

September 10, 2013 4:59 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #23

I would consider trading 2x Desecration Demon for 2x Abyssal Persecutor and possibly Geth's Verdict for Smallpox

Would also add 2-3 more lands.

Played this vs my Mill deck & Surgical Extraction tore my deck to shreds. So keep that in.

September 10, 2013 5:35 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #24

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth does tap for mana, it also makes your fetches tap for mana.

September 10, 2013 5:39 p.m.

I can see why you'd want to include Grizzlybrand then.

Read the Bones is a great common and priced right at 3CMC. However Sign in Blood costs less and still nets you two cards, and can ping the opponent if need be.

Urborg does tap for mana as it says 'each land.' It can also have fetches tap for B if you don't have the life to spare, as stated above. It does enable Swampwalk yes, which is something that could be considered. Granted you have nothing with Swampwalk...
