If you need an answer for Affinity why not Creeping Corrosion ?

My opinion: Kill Descecration Demon for Dark Confidant . Modern has all kind of ways to deal with him, and a 6/6 that does nothing isn't nearly as good as ol' bob himself. Just my thoughts, nice deck though.

Creeping Corrosion is exactly what i was looking for, thankyou UmbrotheUmbreon
cschiller I am going to drop the demon soon for Abyssal Persecutor . I have considered bob for this deck, but my curve is too high, i would be taking 2-3-4 life too often. Phyrexian Arena serves the same purpose as bob, but only pings me for 1 each turn.
Thanks you both for your suggestions!

Grafdigger's Cage could be useful in your SB. Especially if you're only siding in a pulse vs pod. It also shuts down, persist/undying/unearth/reanimation/ snapcaster/lingering souls, tutors. ridiculous ammount of stuff for 1 mana.
Phyrexian Revoker and Pithing Needle shut down Cranial Plating alternatively if u don't go the Creeping Corrosion /Fracturing Gust route. A good Memoricide will take care of it. Affinity isn't the same threat without it's Cranial Plating . Especially in a deck that MB's Maelstrom Pulse .

Why Geth's Verdict as the removal spell of choice? I'd almost always want Go for the Throat or something in that family.
January 29, 2014 6:31 p.m.
I wish folks would stop suggesting Dark Confidant . Obviously I am aware of the card and have considered it for the deck, but my curve is too high. I hurt myself enough w this deck as it is, I cant compensate bob without some serious change to the deck.
APPLE01DOJ you're probably right about Grafdigger's Cage , it definitely shuts down a lot of things. Will probably add that to the SB. I dropped pithing needle recently, it is not good enough. No one is going to allow a pithing needle to shut down their strategy Chalice of the Void is an interesting suggestion, I will think about that one.
twospires i like geths verdict a lot, It hits hexproof, indestructible, and protected creatures. its saved my ass from getting squid punched by an emrakul many times. I may replace it with go for the throat though. will have to playtest it.

It's probably most of a metagame call, I think. I'm not sure what Modern's like, I just play casually. But any deck that manages to get out some tiny creature or a token or something is just going to sac that instead of something they really care about. Seems like it's very easy to circumvent.

except for Affinity is like the budget deck of the format which really weakens Go for the Throat Geth's Verdict is better than Go for the Throat by miles IMO.
Pod packs Qasali Pridemage and Abrupt Decay and while it's true they're not going to sit around and let card shut them down. It'll buy u some more time. But since u dropped ur Pithing Needle I dunno if you'll like the cage any better.

I do d wonder about affinity, wasn't sure if it was still a big thing in Modern. That would weaken GFTT by a lot. It all depends on which decks you see most often.
January 30, 2014 1:01 p.m.
Oh affinity is certainly a big thing still, and I have a lot of issues with it a lot of the time. Grafdigger's Cage shuts down a lot of stuff, so im probably going to get a few copies and see how it works. Pod is generally an easy win, Ive never ran into a pod deck that was super threatening.

Looking at your current list, I think your deck would be stronger to move all 3x Surgical Extraction and 1x Phyrexian Obliterator to the SB for 4x Kitchen Finks MB
Would also consider running your Damnation s MB.
2x Bitterblossom could never hurt.
February 9, 2014 10:25 p.m.
I would probably want Bitterblossom as a 3-of if I was running it. That would give me my flying chumps, but then the deck would be even more suicidal. I really dont want to SB Surgical Extraction , its helped me out in a lot of jams. Im hesitant to MB Kitchen Finks bc of its GG casting cost. Do you think dropping Vampire Nighthawk was ok to do? he has always done wonders for me too.

I see u put him back. Would deff add some Bitterblossom when the price goes back down.
February 10, 2014 12:02 p.m.
Yeah, I playtested against a few decks with fulminator in MB, and though he is important to have, he just doesn't offer the same mid game utility that nighthawk does. With the lack of lifegain bc of DrS ban, and the need for flying bc of bitterblossom unban, Nighthawk seem better for the deck than he was previous to the ban.

3 Inquisition and 3 Thoughtseize. 4 Thoughtseize means you're losing 8 life, something that your deck cannot afford to do. Besides, in modern rarely will you ever find a 4+ drop that you wish you had a TS for when using IoK.
February 21, 2014 10:29 a.m.
Uhh, no. Thoughseize is the safer choice always. I lose 8 life, if i play all 4 thoughtseize, which will never happen.
February 21, 2014 10:38 a.m.
IF you can handle lands sometimes entering the battlefield tapped, than you should add Treetop Village . Man-lands fit very well with this kind of discard removal deck. It gives you something to attack with on an otherwise cleared board.
You can think of it as an extra creature that doesn't take up extra nonland slots in your deck
Additionally, you might consider Liliana's Specter
It makes your opponent discard a card right away, and you're still left with a 2/1 flyer to finish them off with.
And if you find that you're too efficient at emptying your opponent's hand and board, you might consider putting The Rack in your sideboard, to punish your opponent even more for keeping an empty hand.
February 21, 2014 10:39 a.m.
and even if I somehow played all 4 TS, the 8 life is fine, considering the interruption it causes. Then theres nighthawk and scooze to compensate. Ive playtested w 3x TS, 3x IoK, and decided it the right move. I need to be able to grab the Cryptic Command or emrakul, or birthing pod or any number of the 4+ drop cards that are a threat in modern.
February 21, 2014 10:42 a.m.
If you're worried about the suicidal-ness of the deck, you might think about running Thragtusk
if you can make it that far.

This isn't Legacy, you won't be getting Force of Wills with your Thoughtseizes. Most modern decks curve out at 3 or 4. You're telling me that you're okay with Thoughtseizing a Wild Nacatl against Zoo? If so, then you've lost that game because you will want that extra 2 life.
February 21, 2014 10:51 a.m.
Sam_I_am I have considered treetop village, I just hate that it enters tapped. But I may end up grabbing a couple copies and running them. do you think it would be okay as a 1-of or would 2 be better?
My issue with liliana's specter is that it doesnt offer the same mid-game usefulness that nighthawk offers.
A lot of people have suggested the rack, its probably good to have around. but what would you suggest i cut from my SB for it?
February 21, 2014 10:51 a.m.
iamacasual wild nacatl is easily removed once in play, i most likely would not thoughtseize that. but if it is the biggest threat in the opponents hand, then yes, ill be happy to pay the 2 life, like please sir may i have another?
if wild nacatl is the biggest threat in my opponents hand, it should be an easy win.

Good deck, run a couple of tests and it seems pretty consistent. Love Phyrexian Obliterator and Vampire Nighthawk . They're awesome and are very underrated which is good :)
As said on the forum, I'd replace Geth's Verdict by Wrench Mind as you have lots of removal and can easily combine Wrench Mind with Surgical Extraction . That's a personal preference of mine, but I prefer Night's Whisper to Phyrexian Arena .
Above all, your deck seems great and fun to play. Awesome :) +1.
I also have a MB, but in my case with a splash of red: Rakdos Infection. Take a look and comment if you want, I'm looking for suggestions, specially for the sideboard :)
