• Introduction:

They were offered salvation. It costed a mere symbolic tax. But they refused. Now they must face the might of the gods. They are heretics. They henceforth must die. All of them. For the night is dark and full of terrors.

The deck's theme:

  • The deck:

You are piloting an orzhov control deck. You will use everything, specially your life, as a resource, and grind every possible resource to extinction. You have numerous mini-combos such as sucking an opponent's life and adding it to your own with Tree of Perdition + Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. You also have valuable lifegain payoffs like Crested Sunmare and Angelic Accord that will both fuel your lifegain (with the first ability Ayli has) and act as shock force against the enemy. However, the most powerful payoff is Ayli herself: if you reach 50 life (quite easy here) you will have vindicates at your disposal as long as you have fodder to sacrifice. That fodder will be provided by Reassembling Skeleton, Oketra's Monument and the aforementioned token producers. Your wincons are various and flexible. You can either outlive your opponents with Test of Endurance or Felidar Sovereign, kill them with all that lifegain with Vizkopa Guildmage or Sanguine Bond, or nuke them with Aetherflux Reservoir. Be diplomatic, use your boardwipes with care and you should be on your way to victory.

Because she offers extremely good stats for a defensive deck. Being cheap and having deathtouch is a deterrent to having to face attackers most of the time, and both of her abilities are extremely relevant, without being essential to the deck: you cans still run the deck if she becomes too expensive to be played, as you have many other wincons.

  • The deck's weaknesses:

Being Orzhov, you don't have much ramp. Beware of extremely aggressive decks. You have some cheap ways to fog them, but if you can't clear the board frequently you will be on trouble.

  • The deck's strengths:

This deck is pure greedy control, so you will most likely win on the long run if you are largely ignored. play this to your advantage and develop a defensive strategy. Don't hesitate to help other players if you see it might yield profit on the long run. Always think ahead.
