A Plague on Both Your Houses!

Commander / EDH Multiplayer UR (Izzet)

TheLitchKing

Izzet just got a whole lot better. The Locust God does exactly what Izzet does best while creating a massive hasty army. Because of the built in protection, The Locust God avoids the commander tax in most cases and comes right back into the fray.

The deck plays out very similarly to Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind in that it wants to draw tons of cards, which will win the game. It does not have instant wins, however. I have kept it so each card is powerful at every point in the game and as little clunky as possible (looking at you Enter the Infinite and Laboratory Maniac).

Early ramp is very important; each of the ramp cards are 2 cmc or less with the exception of Commander's Sphere and Coalition Relic because of how good they are here. Commander's Sphere can draw a card to make a token and Coalition Relic lets us cast The Locust God on turn 4. The earlier The Locust God is in play the better.

The meat and potatoes of the deck is Alhammarret's Archive and wheel/recycling effects. The archive gets insane with all of the Wheel of Fortune and Arjun, the Shifting Flame effects, which just so happen to be a large portion of the deck. Everything just moves so much faster with the archive; Consecrated Sphinx draws at least 4 cards a turn cycle and one wheel draws at least 42, Chasm Skulker gets huge, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind pings everything, and The Locust God assembles his ranks. Whir of Invention is in here instead of Trinket Mage because it can find Alhammarret's Archive or the missing Skullclamp/Ashnod's Altar piece to draw the whole deck.

I kept the token theme to a minimum because if I flood the board with tokens there's a good chance I'm going to win whether they're 50 1/1s or 50 50/50s (plus Shared Animosity has the same effect but only affects my board). Mana Echoes and Neheb, the Worthy , however, help power out Kozilek, Butcher of Truthand x spells and lead to crazy turns. They don't have the universal effect of Coat of Arms and they're much more impactful than Impact Tremors (pun intended).

A big shoutout to Daedalus19876 and his awesome primer that helped me out a lot: The Ten Plagues: Locust God EDH | *PRIMER*
