The thing is I'll need to only protect one creature at a time (after the lockdown) given they're in topdeck mode. Protecting the Archivists is just as important as protecting the Spirits.
Colonnades avoid Sorceries (basically worthless after the lockdown) as well, meaning Boardwipes are very very rare to hit them anyway.

This deck is pretty awesome :DI dont play modern, but I really admire the workings of this deck. +1 and Feature Que cause i feel like being nice
March 22, 2014 7:39 p.m.
Oh man thanks so much xTCBxNightmare, first time I've gotten one of those. I was wondering where those 4 +1s came from since I last cycled. Really that's so cool, thanks dude.
Render Silent is a decent card, but Remand is nearly unparalleled in Modern. The card draw is really really good on it. Despite that though Render Silent is still good, so I'll throw it in the Maybeboard. Thanks for the +1 and suggestion man.

i dont see a point in The Rack you only have 4 cards that make your oppent ditch cards

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir will ensure no instants are played by your opponent.
March 22, 2014 9:59 p.m.
I think Drogskol Captain might actually have a place here. Maybe -1 Vendilion Clique , -2 Isochron Scepter , +1 Geist of Saint Traft , +2 Drogskol Captain ? Anyway, super cool deck. I knew that Spirit of the Labyrinth would be powerful! +1 from me. Oh, and I believe that the lock you mentioned with Jace's Archivist doesn't work quite as well as you thought. You can't activate abilities during your opponent's draw step, and during the main phase the active player gets priority: they get a chance to cast things, play lands, etc. before you're allowed to cast instants and activate abilities. The lock still works, but it's softer than you think.

@shadow63 The Rack is in the deck to speed up the win after I get the Spirit-Archivist combo (which is the main focus of the deck) off. Given they'll have no cards in hand pretty much until the end of the game, it ensures 3 damage each turn. It can ultimately be taken out of the deck though since it isn't really core to it.
@LordoftheReal thanks for the suggestion dude, Teferi has been blowing up lately. I think he might only have a place in the sideboard though. I'll test him out. Thanks for the suggestion.
@ProfessorDucky Drogskol Captain actually seems like a very good addition to the deck, that Hexproof is huge. I'm a little iffy on taking out the Scepters currently though. I know they're not too powerful, but they might have a place in the deck. I'll see if I want to take them out after playtesting a bit more.
I actually just looked up the rulings on the Draw Step. I was thinking you were actually right, but it works like this: Active player draws card, they gain priority (given it is the draw step and not main phase 1 they can only play/activate spells and abilities at Instant speed), then they must pass priority, after the non-active player passes priority the active player's main phase begins. So ultimately the lock does still work (I believe anyway, I could be getting this wrong), thanks for bringing this potential snag to my attention though. Also thanks for the +1 and suggestions, I'll definitely be putting in the Captains.

@ProfessorDucky Wonderful response, all makes great sense. Will definitely be swapping them out for the Captains.
@ilagirl I'm gonna need more than that. Care to elaborate?

A 4 of legendary in any deck you will get quite a lot of redundancy
March 24, 2014 6:27 p.m.
While I agree in most situations, Vendilion Clique is such an amazing card that I believe running 4 of them is reasonable. I pretty much want to guarantee drawing them. Given their 1 Toughness they're pretty vulnerable to removal an obviously combat trades. Also since they have an amazing ETB ability, even casting another Clique while I have one on the field isn't too unimaginable. Still though, running three isn't a bad idea either. But I think the value they give the deck is too much not to run a playset.

@ilagirl redundancy is also reliability. It is a 3/1 for 3, but the ability is super important. It is likely to be chumped, but its ability keeps cards out of the opponents hands, as the description says.

Redundancy Is redundancy. You don't always want a clique, I suggest Mikokoro, Center of the Sea though if you're looking to abuse draw steps.
March 25, 2014 10:59 a.m.
In this deck yes, I pretty much always do want a Clique.
As for Mikokoro, I was considering it at one point, but it's just not worth it. It removes a colored land from my pool, I need a Spirit on the field, and I need to dump mana into it which I will most likely need for control. Temple Bell would probably just be a better option than it since I only need to pay the cost once, but even then I don't believe it is worth it.

Idk if your creatures are enough to warrant it, but Ephara, God of the Polis can ensure you draw during your opponent's turn as well.
March 25, 2014 1:32 p.m.
Was thinking about using her for that reason as well. It honestly might not be a bad idea as a 1 of. Just wondering if it'll really be worth the slot and the mana. Cliques will generally be coming in on my opponent's turn so it doesn't really help me there and Remands partially cover some draw power on the opponent's turn as well.
However she also does synergize well with Traft. I'll see about testing her as a singleton. Thanks for the suggestion.

Right, we're on the same page there, I'm fairly certain Spirit of the Labyrinth was designed with Ephara, God of the Polis in mind. Or maybe vice-versa, but I can tell that your creatures won't help this combo AS much as they would in a deck with a completely different setup, but if you try it, it could work. No problem, I really like what you're doing with this deck.
March 25, 2014 7:04 p.m.
I would seriously consider splashing B for Notion Thief and perhaps Thoughtseize /Tidehollow Sculler
March 27, 2014 1:08 p.m.
Notion Thief is pretty much the opposite goal of the deck, it's also really high on the curve of what my deck would be. Essentially to get the most value out of it I would have to not have a Spirit on the field and need either a Puzzle Box on the field or an Archivist and have the mana to pay its ability plus flash in the Thief. It's a great card, but doesn't fit the deck's strengths. I don't want people drawing cards period.
As for the other two suggestions, they're very good. I'm always a fan on Thoughtseize and Tidehollow Sculler is great hand disruption as well. I may consider adding Black for them but I'm not too sure. The deck might be too hard to run at that point. Plus I'm thinking I need to mainboard Vapor Snag to remove any creatures the opponent might have on the field after a lock.
Thanks for the suggestions.

While countersynergistic with spirit, I think curving out with 2 Thieves would be very strong. All the hand-refresher effects become extremely one-sided, and you would gain crippling advantage after 1 turn on board.
March 27, 2014 2:07 p.m.
It's just too situational of a card for me to even consider. I can get the lock as early as turn 4, having a 4 drop that doesn't work towards the goal combo just isn't worth it. Not only that but I don't even think I could fit it in the deck.

I think you should use Brave the Elements instead of God's willing because it protects all your white creatures. You can save your white creatures, and especially the colonnades, from a board wipe, Unless you absolutely need that scry.
Or split between the two so you can save the cliques and archivists too.
