Slight change —Sept. 28, 2013

Pulled out Bloodghast to try out Read the Bones. Bloodghast was part of a draw combo but would end up being too hard to put together. I believe I will end up cutting Skullclamp in the near future for Exploration.

Most black EDH decks run Vampiric Tutor you could check my Mono-black Edh deck for some other ideas

Have you considered Snuff Out for a free kill card? Or is non-black too limiting?

maybe Mimic Vat

Combo's well with Kokusho, the Evening Star

Put Kokusho, the Evening Star under Mimic Vat pay 3 put a token out, then sac it with your general. Deal 5 from your general, then 5 more from the token hitting the grave before being exiled.

Im 90% sure that tokens hit the grave first, but if not then a mimic vat would still be awesome to pump out a guy for your general to sac each turn.

Just checked the rules and with Mimic Vat + Kokusho, the Evening Star you would get 10 dmg to each opponent (5 from your general + 5 from Kokusho).

Taken from the official MTG Rules

216.3. A token in a zone other than the in-play zone ceases to exist. This is a state-based effect. (Note that a token changing zones sets off triggered abilities before the token ceases to exist.)

So Mimic Vat is defiantly a strong consideration for this deck.

@JediMindTrick: Although Mimic Vat is certainly a strong card for casual and even semi-competitive builds, it's kind of clunky when it comes to higher levels of competition. At that point, it's really a question of whether a 3-drop with an activation cost of 3 is worth a spot in the deck over a cheaper reanimation spell or tutor. While Mimic Vat is reusable, it's also more expensive to fuel and slower to get off the ground.

@Epochalyptik is exactly right. Its a great card when I'm playing a game with some friends but it doesn't really have a place in this deck. A lot of times I'll play a majority of the game with very few creatures on board and use mass removal to keep everything clear. I would rather spend the 3 mana on either ramping, tutoring, or killing everything then getting a copy of a creature that disappears later.

I just got this idea, and it could be complete jank, but I think that Nighthowler from theros could do some work in this deck. It has the possibility to get fairly large, and, more importantly, you can effectively sac it twice for a relatively low cost. However, if you rarely find yourself with enough creatures on board, or simply don't see that many creatures getting into the grave when you play, its probably the wrong card.

Nighthowler isn't really that strong. This deck plays enough creatures for bestow to be relevant, but the CDA doesn't really count enough meaningful objects. Effects like that of Lord of Extinction , which count all cards in all graveyards, can get out of hand rather quickly. Nighthowler isn't really that strong. Same with Lhurgoyf and Mortivore .
