I'm sorry but I still don't understand your combo don't you have to have infinite manna to make it work or am I missing something?

atgarnett ~ the combo is his general and Phyrexian Devourer.

Cast Phyrexian Devourer

Exile cards until you hit 6 counters and the death trigger goes on the stack.

Now you respond to the death trigger and keep exiling cards until it's big enough to kill the table.

Use Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord's ability (while the death trigger is STILL on the stack) to sac Phyrexian Devourer and nuke the table.

Nice deck, BUT just thort id point out that Crypt Ghast is illegal in this deck due to its white/black mana symbol.

@shanRRgard: Actually, this is a fairly common misconception. Because the white symbol is inside brackets, its only considered a reminder and not part of the colour identity of the card. As such, Crypt Ghast's colour identity is Mono Black.

Thanks for explaining

Necrotic Ooze can get you to your combo sooner if you can get Phyrexian Devourer in the yard right away. Entomb would be one way to do so.

I get what your trying to do with Phyrexian Devourer but doesn't the cards text have to resolve before the next effect can happen? You have to read the first part of the text before you exile the top card of your library then the ability resolves. I love the deck idea however so +1

Muffinz_Pwn if you check the oracle ruling for Phyrexian Devourer:

"Phyrexian Devourer's first ability continually checks its power as a state trigger. Once it triggers, it won't trigger again as long as the ability is on the stack. If the ability is countered and the trigger condition is still true, it will immediately trigger again. If the ability resolves, you'll have to sacrifice Phyrexian Devourer even if its power has been reduced to 6 or less by then."

So reading that, you activate the second ability once and PD gets bigger. Once it gets over 7 power the first ability goes on the stack. You then respond to the first ability by activating the second ability abunch of times and letting them all reolve, making PD huge. And sicne the first ability is on the stack, it won't retrigger. With the first ability on the stack and PD being huge, you sac it to Jarad. Everybpdy dies. At this point you've won the game but the stack kept resolving the first ability would trigger and try to sac DP, however it's already been sac'd and the ability would fizzle. I think that's how it works.

So what would happen if an opponent Path to Exiled Jarad or PD in response to sacrificing it to Jarad's ability? Could you activate Jarad's ability again if you had the mana? Or would it not matter since Jarad's sac trigger would have already been placed on the stack? I'm confused on how priority/maintaining priority works lol

A good player would do exctly that. Respond to Jarad's sac abiliy by playing Path to Exile, Jarad gets exiled, devourer bury trigger resolves and he goes to graveyard. If the player messes up and responds to any of the devourer's abilities then you can respond to path by pumping devourer more or saccing to Jarad

You can't Path to Exile in response to Jarad's ability - sacing the creature is part of the cost. Its a tough combo to stop in that as long as there are cards in the library, you can usually get around a single removal spell.

My mistake, I should have looked at where the ':' was on the card but I was under the impresion that as soon as I pay Jarads ability someone can resond with instant speed removal to stop the combo. I'm sure Epochalyptik would know.

Love the deck and thinking about building it. Just wanted to know if you are still keeping this list updated?

It has been years for this deck list but I now have a reliable EDH group where we play weekly. I'm looking into making more updates to this list with all of the cards from 2013 onward.
