Without foiling out the deck, this is a relatively cheap deck to build for cEDH standards, right?

formulakid2112 yes! This is probably the third cheapest cEDH deck to build next to yisan and selvala brostorm. If you like the list, please give it a little up vote!

Allergymedsandcats What do you think of Flood of Recollection which was recently spoilt?

dhoby87 It's too blue heavy. we have better options in green which is easier for us to cast. Can you imagine having to play a warp after already paying UU on the same turn? Wouldn't be pretty unless we are far ahead snowballing. you should consider joining us on the Edric discord! https://discord.gg/VHEwb7Q

Currently building this deck, but I had a few quick questions about whether you'd considered a few cards. In particular, how do you feel about dropping the Negate for a Heroic Intervention? What is the purpose of Wingcrafter, and would it be worth slotting Wind Zendikon in it's place? The last card I'm looking to put in is Greenseeker, which is slower than something like Arbor Elf, but can fix for Blue Mana as well as help reduce the amount of basics we draw.

Can't edit comments, sorry to double post. But I thought again about Wingcrafter and decided a better swap might be Gudul Lurker for Wind Zendikon
January 26, 2018 4:11 p.m.
trifflin-quagsire Eh but Gudul Lurker is unblockable... which is really good!

trifflin-quagsire Heroic intervention is a very narrow counterspell. Its much better to have an actual counterspell in that slot that can take care of more than just a wipe. wingcrafter gives edric flying so he doesnt just sit there. we generally dont want to use our lands as creatures becasue we need to cast big warp spells. so the wind zendikon is a very meh choice. greenseeker is too slow.

is there a reason you're not running any creature removal other than Cyclonic Rift? Also, what're your thoughts on Snapcaster Mage? not unblockable, but good value for your weenie count as well as flashing back extra turn spells, or recursion pieces for said extra turn spells.

davENGR thank you for taking the time to read our primer. Nature's will is a great card for casual Edric lists, but is just too lSlow at 4 mana for what it does in competitive.
enpc long time no chat buddy! Snappy is already in the deck. We don't run much creature removal for two reasons. Firstly in simic, most of the decently costed creature removal gives our opponents blockers in return. And Secondly, Counterspells are a lot less narrow for the few creatures that see play in competitive that give us trouble.

It has been a while :P
Totally missed that Snapcaster. Apparently it is good.
Since most of your creatures either are unblockable or have flying, is giving your opponent a 3/3 an issue?
Also, have you thought about running Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip for even more CA/ flashback? Or is he too slow?

enpc yes it's still an issue because we need to get as many attackers through as possible. Jvp is a great card but I don't like it in here. We like our looters to be able to draw off Edric in the same turn.

Gaea's Skyfolk v Scryb Sprites/Spire Tracer/Treetop Scout? Burgeoning v Exploration? I consider it much faster, even if it's removal bait. Elvish Spirit Guide v Mana Crypt or something similar? This deck seems very color demanding.
Hope this helps

oliveoilonyaasscureshemorrhoid Hey there! by your suggestions, it seems that you may want to read our primer for the fundamentals of building/playing Edric in a competitive setting.
https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveEDH/comments/7khwfh/edric_spymaster_of_trest_the_art_of_tasteful/
Edric has been brewed to death over the years and unless something new is printed, it is very rare to find something that hasn't been discussed already to infinity.

As for specifics I can give you reasons why we don't play the suggested cards.
Gaea's Skyfolk In this deck, we're trying to hit critical mass ASAP in order to hit out extra turn spells and win by chaining them together. Bigger attackers don't matter to us. When we look for attackers, we look for one mana cratures with evasion. A creature has to do much more for us if we're spending a whole two or even three mana on it. The general rule of thumb for the deck is if it costs more than one mana, it better be doing something that directly impacts out gameplan.
Burgeoning vs Exploration Burgeoning requires you to have a mitt full of lands which we don't want to be frank. we want to have one or two lands, some type of ramp, interaction and a couple attackers. You might come back with "but you draw so many cards, you're bound to get a mitt full of lands at some point." if we're drawing that many cards, our opponents should get another turn because we take all the turns at that point, leaving them unable to play lands to trigger burgeoning. Exploration on the other hand does way more in the long run, we draw a mitt full of lands during chaining, now we can play two per turn to help with warps and paying for protection.
Elvish Spirit Guide vs Mana Crypt Yes we are very colour dependant, but spirit guide can only be used once. Mana crypt is also free but can be used repeatedly and helps drastically with casting our fat costing warps.
Thanks for the interest. Please feel free to read our primer and join our discord if you have further questions. Just let me know.

pviollier if it had evasion it would be played. It's just not as good as Siren stormtamer.

Any interest in the soon-to-be released Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive?

oliveoilonyaasscureshemorrhoid says... #24
I was also curious about Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive. I haven't tested it in this deck yet, but I don't think it fits well enough in this deck. It doesn't provide Edric with evasion, and most other creatures wouldn't be in the deck without evasion. I'd rather not invest 2 mana (a rare blue mana with Gaea's Cradle/Priest of Titania on the field) and save the mana for an extra turn, or for a counterspell to push through that extra turn, or for the second main phase after Edric refreshed my hand and gives more strategies. However, it does provide the best type of evasion for most of the deck.
I'm also curious about Mox Amber in this deck, as Edric is so important to this deck so there's always use, but won't help casting Edric or a counterspell for Edric (besides Baral). What's your thoughts on the new mox and Tetsuko?

Umezawa is going in the deck for sure. It makes our dorks unblockable. That is super important considering how many small blockers there are in cEDH right now.
Mox amber will see very little play in cEDH with a few exceptions. It's a card that will be an instant mull in an opening hand. Not good for. This deck.
