When it comes to the engine, nothing is overkill. CONTAGION ENGINE IS LOVE. CONTAGION ENGINE IS LIFE.
In all seriousness though, CE can be abused so well, especially in a SF deck.

I've been playing a superfriends atraxa deck lately and agree taht CE is overkill. It CAN do a lot of things to help superfriends, but if you've got Teferi out already do you really need to use it up to 4 times?

Gilder Bairn should be the mascot. Amusing deck though.

Not enough untap effects to abuse him. Thanks for the comment!

The ten mana that it takes to turn on Contagion Engine could literally be spent on Diabolic Tutor + Deepglow Skate to just win the game, if you have a planeswalker that gets so much value out of some extra loyalty. And Diabolic Tutor is not a good card.
Gilder Bairn is honestly just too slow. You have to dedicate a lot of space to making him worthwhile and again, why am I not spending that space just tutoring for Doubling Season? If my way to either give him haste (meaning he's probably a one-off) or tap him down costs two mana, I'm one lower than Diabolic -> Doubling Season/Deepglow Skate. That's not a great spot.
There's a pretty straightforward floor that Planeswalker-boosting effects have to get to before you realistically consider them, and cards like Contagion Engine and Gilder Bairn don't make that cut.

I know Gilder Bairn wouldn't work well in the deck, takes too much space to use properly, but his ability goes so well with the deck that I think he should have an honorable mention and be the mascot lol.

kestral287 O.o its by far the most scary enchant ive seen in an atraxa deck

Over Doubling Season? You haven't seen great Atraxa decks. Inexorable Tide says you win if nobody interacts with you in a turn or two. Doubling Season says you win if nobody interacts with you /now/

Yeah infect with blue I'm sure you can pump out some cheap spells and really nail someone with poison counters. kestral has it right though as far as SF goes. With the 4 colors I run a bunch of tutors to sky rocket from mana generation stage to dropping a slew of walkers to try and do something with.
I've actually been playing my superfriends deck slow by allowing at least one planeswalker to die before committing to an end game strategy. It allows some organic card drawing and game playing while letting the table interact as well. I made it clear after a few evenings that Atraxa was the deck to beat and so coming out too aggressively is not a good idea.
Also I am literally going for the cheapest CMC cards as I can get in this deck (I cut demonic tutor for vampiric tutor ffs). I would rather my helper cards be real cheap and not require their own helper cards. Gilder Bairn and inexorable tide just take too long to add value.

I'm enjoying the multi-deck idea conversation. Keep it going, let's proliferate ideas.....I'll see myself out XD

I tend to go slowly with walkers as well. Overcommitting just gets them-- and you-- killed. If I commit it's because I know I can protect them; I play a higher creature count than most Superfriends lists; essentially, instead of blowing up your creatures I intend to just cast better ones. So I'll happily throw down a bunch of walkers behind an Avacyn and a Sun Titan but I don't rush them out on empty boards.

I have to agree there. I provide a light board presence or a lock behind an enchantment wall before committing my walkers and outpacing the table.

I'm a big fan of Atraxa. I too take to super friends route with her. I have a few suggestion. Personally I would run Bloom Tender over Gilded Lotus. It nets you more mana and for much cheaper.
I would also run Ghostly Prison over Norn's Annex. I think forcing an opponet to spend mana over life is a much better option. And again it will help with the curve.
Since you are running both Tamiyo's I would definitely add Ajani, Mentor of Heroes. If you have both Tamiyo's emblems and doubling season on the field you have infinite life. You can cast Ajani, Mentor of Heroes use his ultimate to gain 100 life send him to the graveyard, Put him back in you hand and cast him again for free. It's great.
With the above combo I would add Sorin, Grim Nemesis over Sorin, Lord of Innistrad Having a bagillion 1/1's with lifelink is hilarious.
I have a few more but I don't want to over bombard you. I would take out Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury and add in Abrupt Decay Her only really useful ability is her -2, and having Abrupt Decay is just another way to abuse the dual Tamiyo's emblems.

Ok let's go card by card:
Bloom Tender is indeed a better ramper if I have access to my colors, but it is also a creature. My meta is extremely toxic to creatures and it would likely not survive long enough to be tapped.
Ghostly Prison while on paper looks better it lacks the "or planeswalkers you control" line that is necessary. It only protects me, not my walkers.
Ajani, Mentor of Heroes has been in and out of the deck, infinite life is cute but worthless when facing a meta with combo and Kaalia of the Vast
Sorin, Grim Nemesis was tested and proven lacking. The token swarm is cool but a -0 on Ugin, the Spirit Dragon or any other wipe before a turn cycle makes them worthless.
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury ---> Abrupt Decay is just no. Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury is repeatable removal and generates mana producing blockers. I will not always have Tamiyo, the Moon Sage or Teferi, Temporal Archmage emblem and my meta is not forgiving to creature builds but often let the walkers slide for a turn too long.

may i sugest Myojin of Cleansing Fire, Myojin of Night's Reach and Myojin of Seeing Winds they do are costy but with atraxa on the field they all are power house.Black make evryone play with no hand for the rest of the game if well managed, white make wrath on evry turn and bleu just give you so much card.
March 10, 2017 4:42 p.m.
Your meta is way more creature centered than mine lol. I get all the artifact hate in mine.
A great new protection card is Heroic Intervention I'm always happy to have it in hand and sometime I'll Tutor for it depending on the table.

I do actually like Grim Nemesis as a source of card draw and removal; most of the time he's a second Ob Nixilis. His ultimate isn't amazing but it does force a response or they lose. I personally couple it with a single extra turn spell (Temporal Mastery) to actually make it a valid win condition by giving them pseudo-haste. When I actually have to play out how people lose the game, a lot of the time it's that line. Admittedly, I find that any talk of "I can do X with double Tamiyo emblems!" to be pretty unnecessary given that your best possible card there is something that just says "draw a card" (I like Cryptic Command, myself), but you know.

Do you find Oath of Gideon to be more beneficial than Oath of Nissa. I run both in my Superfriends deck and was just curious as to why you chose to leave Nissa out. Btw, huge fan of this deck, I have drawn a lot of inspiration from it!!

I do yes, I left out Oath of Nissa mainly because of how balanced my mana already is. Gideon on the other hand increases loyalty and adds blockers, especially with venser.
Thanks for the love! I'm glad my deck can help other aspiring super friends builders
Spooksy- I have been slowly writing an Atraxa suuperfriends primer and I suppose I should finally add it to the page.

I'm surprised not to see it, but what about a contagion engine? That's kind of a staple in a Superfriends deck. With Tezzeret, it's quite nice. I'd recommend removing Sensei if you need to remove anything in particular. Contagion Engine is a huge deal for Superfriends. With Teferi in the deck, you can proliferate 4 times each turn with just contagion, and that's not including the Ruins of Brighthearth.
