A Strange and Unexpected Challenge

Modern Casual Eldrazi GWU (Bant)

Seraphiim

Sideboard

A while back, around Kaladesh's spoilers, someone told me about a combo with Dubious Challenge, Eater of Days, and Hushwing Gryff.

I liked it. It was jank. Out of left-field. Nobody would've expected it. My kind of deck. It's simple, for the most part. So long as you hit the right creatures. Originally, it went with the Eater/Gryff combo. You play Challenge. Exile Eater of Days & Hushwing gryff.Your opponents chooses one to receive.

Should they choose Eater, you get a 2/1 Flyer, and they skip their next two turns, since Gryff isn't on the field when Eater lands. It's two turns to draw an answer.

Should they choose Gryff, You get a free 9/8 flying & trample. It was cool, it was fun, but it doesn't quite end games.

So I decided to take it up a notch. Ended up sideboarding Gryff and Eater, and then replaced Eater with Leveler. Leveler helps win in more ways than one. Then, felt some stronger creatures were required, and reached the current iteration of the deck.

So, the breakdown. There's two types of creatures in the deck, Enablers & Pay-offs.

Your Enablers are straight forward enough, Flickerwisp, Glimmerpoint Stag & Brooding Saurian. And Hushwing Gryff .

The Pay-offs are anything that basically spells GG.Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Blightsteel Colossus.Iona, Shield of Emeria. Griselbrand. And Leveler (only if you play Gryff).

It's not a super competitive play style, but it's fun. No one expects it. Anyways, it's the same basic idea. Challenge, exile a Pay-off and an Enabler.Should your opponent take the Pay-off, the Enablers make sure to bring them home. Should they take the Enabler for some odd reason, well, how well does a Flickerwisp or Stag against a Blightsteel or Emrakul usually go?

Fist of Suns is sideboarded in should something go wrong and we need to cast our Pay-off creatures normally. At least we get Emrakul cast triggers with it, but it's not as fun as hitting them with Challenge. Dispel is for counter-protection on Challenge, and Path to Exile is, well, Path to Exile. If somehow we give our opponent a Blightsteel, with no Enabler, it helps fix our problems. Most of the deck is self-explanatory for anyone who plays magic; Fetch-lands and Shock-lands to go fast, and Mana-dorks to go faster.

Feel free to comment with suggestions or tips, as I usually play EDH and not Modern, so I have little experience in the format.
