Wincons: Debt to the Deathless - Easy to hit big with Crypt Ghast , and may even transform Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Pontiff of Blight giving everybody extort. Cheap removal spells that can be extorted easily. And not to mention the ultra-lame Vizkopa Guildmage and Exquisite Blood loop which is easily achieved with Vampire Nighthawk Tithe Drinker Sorin, Lord of Innistrad vampire tokens, and extort.

Sideboard:Blind Obedience for aggro decks.Elixir of Immortality mill decks.Immortal Servitude and Sin Collector for those annoying boardwipe cards.Faith's Shield for burn decks.Mutilate if I need a board wipe.

I think this deck looks really competitive, it's the kind of direction I would like to go with my own deck... I like you're solutions for AEtherling , that card has been the bane of my deck, so difficult to remove from the field.. wish I could give more advice but not a whole lot to say... Riot Control with Vizkopa Guildmage can sometimes lead to an unexpected win or a massive swing in the game against decks that swarm the field... just in case you've not tried that before

Didn't think about that synergy, good catch! Speed is what is killing me in playtesting. I'm thinking of trying to try a few Typhoid Rats but not sure what to take out.

I find High Priest of Penance is my counter for fast decks, playing it on turn two will tend to slow down the opponent as they don't want to risk losing their expensive creatures or spells even if they don't attack with them... I like Typhoid Rats but the freedom of what you kill with high priest is more useful in my opinion... if you can stall the game till turn four your opponent should be on the back foot from then ideally

I'll have to try both, unfortunately i dont have any of the High Priest of Penance . but ill copy this deck and replace it with the priest and see how it goes. I was trying to experiment with 1 drops because other than tragic slip i don't have anything to play turn 1. But then again, High Priest of Penance will go very well with Immortal Servitude for x=2 when that gets sideboarded in.

I just find that nothing brilliant is ever played on turn one that you'll want to go to the effort of removing with a tragic slip, so i don't tend to worry about the first turn drops unless they are Elixir of Immortality or similar side deck cards. I have used the Immortal Servitude to bring back the vast majority of my deck before and it's very satisfying, also I said this on my deck thread but will repeat it here... would Tragic Slip set off High Priest of Penance ? if so that creates some very nice synergy letting you hit cards when your opponent is circumventing your monsters... not sure if that works or not though as its a -1/-1 as opposed to 1 damage... anyway as you said easiest way to find out what works is just to test it and see how it goes

Tragic Slip will not set of High Priest of Penance . Good point made however, and will remove the Typhoid Rats for High Priest of Penance .

Interesting idea to remove the guildmages, same thing has been running through my head, whenever i draw them i rarely get to make use of them and honestly i've yet to pull of the instant win, came close but people close it down fast of they see the combo coming

DjinnjerVitis says... #9

yeah i feel like its just a dead draw most of the time. if its in opening hand it basically serves as a chump blocker. id rather have the LL and extort from the Tithe Drinker or the targeted deathtouch of the High Priest of Penance

Glad I took a look, you have the cards I just cant spend the money on LoL. Compared to Infinite Extort yours is a much better use of extort. I just use it as a way to stay in it just long enough to pop off some combos. I have like one win condition. +1 for you

Have you tried splashing green it will give u access to remova like Abrupt Decay and Putrefy and give u some ramp with Farseek

June 19, 2013 11:12 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #12

It crossed my mind briefly, but i think it only takes away the ramping power of Crypt Ghast . Abrupt Decay is decent, mainly bc it cant be countered, but between my own spot removal and High Priest of Penance and Vampire Nighthawk i dont imagine spot removal being a problem. and Putrefy adds artifacts to the kill list....who plays artifacts really? High Priest of Penance can take care of those too. thank you for the feedback though.

Why not just 4 of Pithing Needle for AEtherling ? 2 Nevermore might not come into play fast enough to help (and a mere Cyclonic Rift can get neutralize it). While Pithing Needle doesn't handle AEtherling completely, it turns it into a vanilla 4/5--not exactly chump change, but easier to dispatch.

The point is that Nevermore requires very specific timing, and is more fragile...

But overall, good stuff.

DjinnjerVitis says... #14

I guess i don't understand how Pithing Needle would stop AEtherling . Pithing Needle says activated abilities of named card can't be activated unless they are mana abilities. all of AEtherling 's abilities are mana abilities.

June 20, 2013 12:12 a.m.

Khashir says... #15

Mana abilities are abilities that produce mana, not abilities that require mana to activate.

So, naming any land or an Avacyn's Pilgrim wouldn't do anything, naming AEtherling prevents all of the abilities from being used.

As I said, there's a tradeoff, it just seems to me that Pithing Needle is more reliable (but it can't single-handedly do the job...).

erabel says... #16

DjinnjerVitis, mana abilities are abilities that add mana to your mana pool, don't target, and aren't loyalty abilities. All of AEtherling 's activated abilities REQUIRE mana, they don't PRODUCE it, so they're just activated abilities.

Mainly for your benefit:Mana ability - An ability that generates mana.Activated ability - Requires a cost (Tapping/Mana/Sacrificing something) to do an abilityTriggered ability - Uses the term "Whenever...".

Really like the deck, kinda makes me want to go and make it myself :P+1

Thank you senken12. This deck has been performing quite well in playtesting. I've made a few more tweeks to the sideboard that i hadn't updated yet here, but i'll make the changes this week. I will be taking this to FNM this friday so i'll post the results.

I like the deck! +1 from me.. i run a similar deck, 3 Guild Extortion (Advice Needed), but threw red and rakdos in to keep up the pace if Debt to the Deathless didnt come up quick enough or if one of the other win cons weren't up yet. Check it out and let me know what ya think if ya get the time!

Have you thought about Crypt Incursion or Underworld Connections ? Underworld gave a draw ramp and had seemed to be a fair trade off because of the extortion's and Crypt was a safe way to get rid of pesky critters and gain some life

June 26, 2013 2:03 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #24

Sir_Muffins i have Crypt Incursion in sideboard for graveyard/reanimator decks. i thought about Underworld Connections and i'm still considering it, but not sure what to replace it with. i may take out Sign in Blood for it, may try it out in playtesting. Thank you for your suggestions. checking out your deck now.

June 26, 2013 7:02 a.m.

Sir_Muffins says... #25

Taking out Sign in Blood doesnt look like it would be too detrimental but that would depend on playtesting. When M13 goes out were you planning on putting the guildmage in as compared to Nighthawk? And i am sorry for over looking your crypt incursion haha, thank ya for checking mine out let me know what ya think and best of luck with yours
