love what you did with the deck, you probably already thought of this but if you have Exquisite Blood out and Vizkopa Guildmage from your maybeboard out you can kill anyone with one direct hit no matter how much health they have. still a beautiful deck as it is tho

yes i have thought of that, and it was in the deck at one time. ive only pulled it off a very small % of the time, and i was already winning without it. its just too mana intensive. thank you for the comment though Billiamr

i have a b/w deck that works competitively. It placed 2nd and it has vampires. Of pure lineage (2nd at fnm)

cool dbrannon thanks for the input.

I have been following this deck for a while and I liked it so much i kind of copied it to play myself lol. I really like your inclusion of the Rhox Faithmender instead of sorin (which i hadnt included in mine either). i think thats a great card, and ill probably pick up a couple myself for the deck, it just synergizes so well with the rest.

really the only thing i run different from this is a pair of One Thousand Lashes and a pair of Sinister Possession for a little more control, taking out the Exquisite Blood . i play some Sin Collector (good against the metagame of my friends, i mostly play casual).

but dude i love this deck, i think you did a great job. thank you, because it essentially gave me a new deck i love.

With reguards to your concerns over Pontiff of Blight , Riot Control and Exquisite Blood

Pontiff of Blight has a decent profile for his cmc, but more importantly he maximises the potential of the extorts you're making. That slow chipping at the opponents life makes the difference. But you could possibly affod to run 1 less and put the Crypt Ghast up to 4. Only because crypt ghast gives you that spare mana for extort and an early Debt to the Deathless finish. But thats just from my experience, yours may be diffrerent.

Riot Control ... i'm a fan of this card in this type of deck, it saves me a lot of times, letting agro decks tap their entire field in an all out attack and putting you into a hopefully strong position next turn, also with Rhox Faithmender you're getting more for your money

Exquisite Blood you could do without, its exepensive and rhox faithmender will do the same effect for cheaper and you have a creature. Not sure what you would want to do with the spare slots it would free up however.

with regards to Exquisite Blood it is somewhat useful, but yes Rhox Faithmender is doing the exact same thing, though a little more vulnerable because he's a creature. i'd probably up the Sign in Blood to 4 for the card advantage, or maybe even try to give some playtime to more of the stronger non-RTR block creatures (ie innistrad demons or angels) but not sure what to take. More cheap removal/control is always useful. i'll experiment a bit and keep you updated. thanks for the great advice as always.

I've actually upped my Sign in Blood to three... i always forget you can use it offensively and burn away the last of your opponents life with it if you need to, that plus a little extort could swing a game... as well as the obvious hand advantage it generates.

My thoughts exactly.

Don't know if you have seen the m14 full release list but these decks are going to need some major work, Murder is gone, Sign in Blood is gone, Vampire Nighthawk is gone... on top of all the innistrad that will be going, there's not a whole lot to replace it with either, Doom Blade , Quag Sickness and Silence are the only cards that seem beneficial to this deck, only black draw requires a creature sacrifice as well... times are changing

DjinnjerVitis says... #11

yeah ive seen. we are still good until septemeber though when theros comes out. so when that full release list comes out im sure we can brainstorm a few ideas, or possibly even go 3 colors to make up for losses. just some ideas.

Yeah still a bit of time to go before any changes have to happen, i've built a Post M14 version of my deck under: Orzhov's the Name (Post M14) if you want to have a look... sure it could do with some improvement but play tested it against a very nasty current format boros aggro and it locked him down quick enough.

July 8, 2013 6:19 p.m.

Or, Vizkopa Guildmage and Sanguine Bond plus any one extort and a tap for one mana. Infinite combo, instant win.

July 18, 2013 12:28 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #14

PurpleOranges23 no, thats not an instant win. replace Sanguine Bond with Exquisite Blood then yes. and that combo is lame and can be seen coming too easily. that combo used to be in here and got left behind as it was too slow and unreliable, and honestly not very fun.

almalong says... #15

the only problem I see is that I was under the understanding that you can use EITHER M13 OR M14, meaning you can't have the faithmender and the bond on the field at the same time, I'd have to do some more looking, as I am pretty sure they have not had 2 core sets legal at the same time before.

July 18, 2013 12:35 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #16

almalong you can have both until september 28th when theros releases.then 13 rotates as well as innistrad block.

Silence will break this deck... i'm running it in my deck now, not that i've got round to updating it but it wastes opponents turns and is so so good, my friends absolutely hate me playing it :)

another card that can break this deck is strionic resonator... for two mana you can duplicate the double lifegain of rhox, the removal effect of High Priest of Penance , and generates even more mana with Crypt Ghast its got a lot of great synergy with all of the creatures in this deck

July 18, 2013 2:14 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #18

i didnt think of strionic resonator...thats rediculous. can can easily turn this into a turn 5 win, vice a turn 6.

July 18, 2013 2:39 a.m.

cptjmaverick says... #19

Yeah its a little broken, can copy Sanguine Bond as well... i would have overlooked it usually but that card won me pre-release, there will never be a turn where you have nothing to do with it which is always nice

July 18, 2013 2:50 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #20

exactly. and with extort mostly leaving my deck (save for Crypt Ghast and Tithe Drinker ) finding something to use the leftover mana is always great. there is so many options in this new core set i am not sure where i want to take my deck (not sure if you are in the same boat or not) because the possibilities seem endless.

July 18, 2013 3:09 a.m.

cptjmaverick says... #21

Yeah i definitely feel the same way, i was a little worried when i first saw this set but after looking at it properly at least for this type of deck there are a lot ways you can go, i think control with Silence will be very useful and i think this deck will need to go more with Fiendslayer Paladin over Vampire Nighthawk come rotation... then use Sanguine Bond and Debt to the Deathless as a main win-cons... tbh for the next three months this deck is going to be insane, i like the idea of using Archangel of Thune for a more aggressive play... ah theres just too many choices not to mention what theros may bring

July 18, 2013 3:42 a.m.

DjinnjerVitis says... #22

i had Fiendslayer Paladin picked for Vampire Nighthawk replacement (though dependant on what theros has) as its pretty much the only creature that seems to fit a similar role. im really looking forward to this at fnm, just need to get 1 more Sanguine Bond and 1 more Silence to finish this (i got pretty lucky at prerelease; i got 2nd place and opened into 2 silences and 1 sanguine bond)

July 18, 2013 3:20 p.m.

cptjmaverick says... #23

ah very nice, i actually won my pre-release and pulled some silence and a few other cards i was after. Just done a massive update on my deck, its changed a bit but after a lot of play testing i've realised its how i want my deck to run, would love to hear what you think :)
