Abstain to play

Commander / EDH

Maybeboard

An absurd EDH deck built to mimic the Boomer's environmental policy of polluting the environment then retiring to avoid the consequences. This deck attempts to win by abstaining from play.

Early on it tries to set up a series of (mostly) symmetrical damaging effects punishing things like: having an upkeep Havoc Festival, drawing a card Spiteful Visions, or casting a spell Spellshock.

After some form of punishment-for-play is established, the deck then avoids it by skipping its own turns using cards like: Chronatog, Eater of Days, or Lethal Vapors.

The draw backs of skipped turns are mitigated using defensive cards which become less effective on, or defer costs to, successive turns which might be skipped. Notable examples include: Chance for Glory, Soul Echo (where x = 0), and Glacial Chasm.

Flexible counter spells (Dromar's Charm, Bant Charm), and instant speed abilities (Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, Legacy Weapon) allow some degree of off-turn interaction. Drumbellower, and Murkfiend Liege combined with 'big' mana dorks (Jegantha, the Wellspring, Faeburrow Elder, Sanctum Weaver) help repeatedly power those interactions.

Given the large amount of enchantments, the deck has a small Enchantress package including: Sythis, Harvest's Hand, and Sanctum Weaver, as well as Enchanted Evening + Sterling Grove .

For extra flavor, be sure to remind everyone when you start to skip turns that you're retiring.
