Thanks Neberus, normally I'd run about 4 more lands in a standard build, but with this one I found that I was hitting lands way more than I needed (to the point it was slowing me down) so it got cut to 24 in an earlier build then down to 22 and I've found that's about where I want it to be. And with Surveil, I can do a little reordering of the draw line up, so it helps.

Hopefully xhuggels, it ends up that the control enhances the mill. Blue counterspell? Mill. Blue creature? Mill. Another Drowned Secrets? Mill.

Maybe a Price of Fame? That card is so fun (sideboard maybe?)

ill be honest with you here boss, i really dislike the red splash in the sideboard. if you are lucky you can consistently cast Ionize by turn 8...if you are very lucky that is. the math is against you though. i just dont think its worth it since blue as so many counter spells to choose from already. if you want more countermagic Negate, Admiral's Order and Essence Scatter are all better options.

Yeah, xhuggels the more I think about it, the more I don't really like it either. Of course, at the moment I'm also giving severe second thoughts to the Doom Whisperers because they just haven't won me games yet.

Right now, what's being considered is Doom Whisperers out in favor of a pair of Primal Amulet  ^Flips and the Notion Rains out in favor of a playset of Nightveil Predators. Make it more of a Surveil-through-Control kind of a deck, which may supplant the need for Lazav as well, as he's only there as the hingepin for the Lazav-Whisperer-Spybug Combo. Which may also open the replacement for Etrata to come in.

Ive played around with etrata,and to make it work at all you need to build the deck arpund it. That means bounce/flicker mechanics to avoid shuffling her and copy mechanics to make more of her. The downside is she is sub-optimal against control, as she will be no win-con. Hostage Taker/Thief of Sanity might be worth looking into as well

Updated this to reflect what I'm actually playing it as right now. The major change was the removal of Lazav in favor of a pair of Crucible of Worlds, because who cares if I surveil lands out if I can replay them anyway. It's technically a little slower but it guarantees a land drop almost every turn if I surveil.
