Think Athreos, God of Passage would be better as Siege Rhino since he himself does little. I think Siege Rhino would be better as Polukranos, World Eater if you're not opposed to playing giant powerful Hydras.

@EnragedPwn My sideboard is more of a utility board with some aggro/graveyard hate
3x Anafenza, the Foremost - For those Salty sultai's
2x Brimaz, King of Oreskos - For the aggro (Helps to add blockers/attackers)
4x Drown in Sorrow - Aggro/Morph wipe
2x Stain the Mind - Targeted removal, This can be wicked if they are running playsets of something, Can shut down Jeskai decks by removing Jeskai Ascendancy
3x Utter End - Hard removal for those mirror matchups or control matchups.

I think Ajani, Mentor of Heroes is the better Ajani to run in an Abzan deck. It's in your colors, grabs walkers and pumps your small creatures.
September 22, 2014 2:51 p.m.
rcrimmins but it doesn't do what this deck needs.
MoH is great if your casting lots of creatures to buff, but this is more of a control deck.
Ajani Steadfast is the better choice for the deck because his +1 can negate alot of the life loss from the painlands, Thoughtseize , Abzan Charm draw and Erebos, God of the Dead draws. (Since Sphinx's Revelation was removed from Esper control, I went with the charm and Erebos for card draw with an Abzan shell for the walkers.)
His -2 helps other walkers build up loyalty, which is one of the main reasons he's in here. Anything that can speed up my walkers ults is awesome, and the fact that (as a walker) he can do it himself it's just nuts.
His -7 won't win you the game, But it will make it really hard for you not to with all the other walkers in here.
PLUS Liliana Vess is in here for the hand disruption as well as a tutor with her -2.

Building a very similar deck atm, +1 from me breh ;)
September 22, 2014 9:48 p.m.
@CrazyCrackCarl Wicked, I really think Abzan has enough to take over the esper control shell now so this was my attempt.
Post yours when it's up and i'll check it out

How's the deck been for you? I wish I had a budget to do super friends lol. Looks like a solid list. +1. Was Anafenza, the Foremost just for Sultai matchups?
If you have the time check out my Abzan colored deck. Its definitely no super friends but more midrange, and I'm new to deck building, would love input.

Well Anafenza, the Foremost is a pretty strong drop for 3 CMC just on her own, But yeah she's in here for the graveyard hate, Brimaz for aggro hate, and Siege Rhino for the usual gainz ;)

@Caligula nice, fair enough, she is a good three drop, curious as what you side in and out for her? I'm horrible at side boarding, granted im new to magic but I'm always hesitant as what to take out/put in
September 22, 2014 10:50 p.m.
It would probably be Siege Rhino for the SB option

Part of me really wants to try villainous wealth if you're splashing blue
September 23, 2014 11:47 a.m.
operationremie I was considering that as well..
If anything it'd be a 1 off.

Dude, you have tweaked this list so much it's just awesome! I can't wait to hear how it runs!
I myself was thinking of running something close to this with my Heroes of Abzan list. However after pulling Sarkhan and Sorin in the pre-release, I think I'm going to build a Mardu Walkers list.
Also I lost a round to a V. Wealth, so def consider it. Oh and dunno how much you will like the idea, but I would swap Thoughtseize and Despise with eachother. It's going to be a very aggro heavy format for a couple months, so that 2 life can be huge. Also in side against control, possibly running Altar of the Brood may not be a bad thing.
September 23, 2014 2:59 p.m.
Tingettley Thanks man, It's gonna be such a blast to run, In playtesting it's pretty ruthless.
And Altar of the Brood could be a very useful card.

How would you sideboard against Rabble Red? I can see the 4 drown in sorrow, but would you also side in brimaz or anafenza? If so, what would you switch them out for?
September 23, 2014 10:29 p.m.
@Energycore I would side in Brimaz for the Rhino, You need the token spawning to keep up with aggro blockers.
Aggro will be this deck's main weakness, Any way to speed it up, disrupt, or wipe is needed.
4x Despise might be a necessity.

Would you mind justifying your sideboard to me? Not that I'm questioning I just wanna know what matchups you swap things for.
