A deck for the upcoming block of standard.
With the outlast mechanic seeming kinda Meh i decided to ignore them as a whole for now until i find out how good it will be in the months to come. So what does this leave us with? the framework for an excellent mid-range deck with heavy control.
Firstly we have Black and white. So that means we have the best possible spot removal and the new board wipe (not for mainboard but possible side board.) So Ulcerate and Utter End will be our main cards for now. Ulcerate can be replaced with Hero's Downfall should the match up need it. May even go main board but that's a local meta choice you would need to make.
Read the Bones is a very good card draw spell. When choosing between this and Sign in Blood have only a single black mana in it's cost makes it much easier to cast and having a less awkward turn three makes life better. But both cards will be tested to see which is better.
Now for the planeswalkers. First we have the new Sorin, Solemn Visitor. This guy may end up getting taken out because even though i think his +1 is amazing, i think it is a weaker option but i wish to test it. But if space needs to be made for a new card, this will be likely the first to go.And second is Ajani Steadfast. this guy just makes combat much better for you. His +1 just making a lion stronger or his -2 giving you a very large buff.
Now we have those out the way time for the core of the deck, the creatures. Filling up our one drop is
Soldier of the Pantheon
A card that will be very strong in this format just because of the presence of multi coloured cards. and dropping it turn one gives you a very strong start. Next are the two drops being Fleecemane Lion and Sylvan Caryatid. Fleecemane is just a staple card and the caryatid provides vital mana fixing. Although with a manabase so wide in the format it may be replaced when my land base is better.
Next are the three drops being Godsend
Herald of Torment
and Anafenza, the Foremost. Godsend is really the only good artifact in standard right now and putting it on a creature just basically makes it unblockable cause no one will want to. Anafenza is a powerful card that will likely be increased from two to three in the deck just to make it show up more as it helps the aggressive game. Lastly the hearld is there because when you need a easy damage this guy provides. and the ability to give something flying late game may end up being the deciding factor. as turing a 3/3 or a 4/4 into a 6/6 or 7/7 with flying is likely to be a winner.
Lastly at the top of the curve is the Siege Rhino a card so good it's kinda boring. But three damage upon enter and the 4/5 body with trample at 4 mana is very good.
