Sideboard

Named after the awesome Gideon from BZF.

This is a deck that is meant to control the field while getting low coasting creatures out to protect you till you get your mid game stabilized.

This Deck is Easy to Play:

  1. Play Creatures
  2. Drop Gideon and start making Emblems
  3. Use Abzan Charms and Dromoka's Commands to clear the way
  4. Swing for massive amounts of damage in the air and on the ground

Deck Tech

  1. Warden of the First Tree: Warden is a great one drop which you can then make a 3/3 on turn 2 and deal 3 damage. This creature is the most important card to an aggro deck with green in it
  2. Hangarback Walker, Dromoka's Command, Valorous Stance, Den Protector, Hidden Dragonslayer: Hangarback is a great 2 drop which then allows you to buff him up every turn for 1. Dromoka's Command is the most important instant to an abzan deck. It allows you to clear the way for your creatures, buff up a creature, get rid of an enchantment an opponent controls, or prevent damage an instant or sorcery would deal. Valorous Stance is a great removal card. If you're not using it to kill an opponents creature, then you can use it to kill your Hangarback Walker. Then you get at least 4 1/1 flyers which you can then make bigger with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Den Protector allows you to get anything back from your graveyard and then can't be blocked by creatures with power less than it. This card is a huge reason to why the deck is such a success. You can buff it up with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Dromoka's Command, and Abzan Charm. This means that the bigger you make it, the less chance it will have to be able to be blocked. Hidden Dragonslayer is a great card for removal. If you're down late in the game and need to gain life, this is the card you need. Also , if there is a big creature on the field, Hidden Dragonslayer can remove it.
  3. Abzan Charm, Anafenza, the Foremost Abzan Charm: works great to remove creatures from play, put counters on your creatures, or draws you cards. Anafenza, the Foremost exiles any creature my opponent puts into their graveyard. This is very helpful so they can't bring it back with Den Protector or other return spells. Also, she gives another tapped creature a counter. Therefore, you can pay one and tap Hangarback Walker to give him a counter and then give him another counter off of Anafenza, the Foremost
  4. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Siege Rhino:These are the main two cards of the deck. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar helps buff up your creatures and he can also make 2/2's. If that isn't good he can also turn into a 5/5 ally with indestructible. Siege Rhino is the best creature in the deck. With trample and giving you 3 life and taking 3 life from your opponent, they can't stop you from winning.
  5. Wingmate Roc: As the highest creature in the deck, the roc is a very important key in winning the game. With the rally trigger you get a 2 for 1 with 2 flying bodies. If that wasn't good enough, you also gain 1 life for each attacking creature which keeps you from burn range.

Sideboard Deck Tech

1.Infinite Obliteration, Languish, Murderous Cut, Ob Nixilis Reignited, Ruinous Path, Stasis Snare, Surge of Righteousness, Utter End: All these sideboard cards can deal with everything. The vast amount removal comes in handed for decks that i cant keep up with or decks that play more creatures than me.

After the changes i have made to my abzan deck, i went 2-0-1 at Saturday night magic. I first beat a guy 2-0 playing red white prowess. The deck was fast but i was able to out aggro him with my Wardens. The next match i played a guy playing Simic Landfall. His deck was very good as he ramped up to Ulamog. However, i was able to beat him 2-1. The first game i won by getting creatures out fast and swinging for lots of damage. Game 2 he won because i got stuck on land and he got to his Ulamog. The last game by turn 16 i finally pulled my sideboard card Infinite Obliteration. I named Ulamog which was his only threat and got rid of it. This card won me the game as 2 turns later i won will a bunch of wardens and wingmate rocs. The last game i had to face my dad playing mono green eldzari ramp. We decided to draw and we got $8 store credit each. I love the way the deck is playing. If you have any suggestions feel free to comment and + 1 my deck please :)
