Sideboard

The Cards

  • Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons - The snake queen. One of the few creatures that justifies protection spells.
  • Obelisk Spider - The real MVP. The life gain/drain is seriously under-rated.
  • Ammit Eternal - Great way to trigger the other creatures' abilities.
  • Archfiend of Ifnir - There are a number of cards that cycle/discard so triggering Archfiend is not out of ordinary.
  • Channeler Initiate - Mana dork that triggers the other creatures' abilities.
  • Key to the City - Might as well be called key to the game.. Key to the City is our key to swinging in with Hapatra and/or Ammit Eternal. Key synergy is with Archfiend however as it allows us to be a -1/-1 counter on **every** creature our opponent(s) controls. Key to the City is also our only card draw. Key.

  • Lost Legacy - Our best bet against Approach of the Second Sun decks. Also works well to grab The Scarab God or other difficult to remove creatures.
  • Vraska, Relic Seeker - Who doesn't love planeswalkers? Vraska is best in the deck for spot removal, and the occasional ultimate. Zombies aren't a big help for the deck.
  • Crook of Condemnation - My graveyard hate of choice for this deck. I chose this over silent gravestone for something or other.
  • Duress - Early game disruption. It'd be nice to steal some removal.

The Gameplan

Snakes. Lots of snakes. Or not, sometimes Hapatra doesn't find its way to your hand and there isn't a way to tutor it up. With enough Obelisk Spiders that is far from a problem.
