Sideboard

Just when you thought Junk was gone because of our evil twin Jund! LITTLE ABZAN is here to leave it's mark on modern! With more and more decks playing delve creatures and big fatties getting cheated out, Path to Exile has not looked this good over Lightning Bolt in a while!

This is a pretty straight forward Wilted Build, I tried to find a good balance with our aggressive creature package and some reliable strong removal.

CREATURES

  • Wilt-Leaf Liege - This is the core of the deck! a 4/4 For 4 mana that can not be discared by an opponent. Oh yeah, the +1/+1 to Green and White creatures also helps basically EVERY creature in this deck.

  • Siege Rhino - Need to say anything? Its a lightning helix on a 4/5 Trample body for 4. The synchronism with Wilt-Leaf Liege starts making this Rhino trample over EVERYTHING!

  • Voice of Resurgence - A fantastic 2 Drop that fits with the Wilt-Leaf Liege plan. It forces decks with removal to start casting instants on their turn or by having to avoid killing this thing. Otherwise, the Token he generates gets very big from WLL and all the low mana cost creatures and Lingering Souls

  • Loxodon Smiter - One of my favorite cards in this deck. The value of not being able to be discarded or countered is insane. Opposing Lilliana's and control decks hate this card with a passion. The amount of times being able to cast this card Turn 2 from a Turn 1 Noble Hierarch is insane. This creature is just screaming value in a deck like this.

  • Kitchen Finks - The mainboard life gain aside from Siege Rhino and Vault of the Archangel is great for aggressive decks in the field. This creature is just flat out annoying to deal with. The persist ability makes their removal not as efficient as they want. A Gavony Township in play with this guy will allow for him to keep coming back to life.

  • Noble Hierarch - The best mana dork in the game. Allows us to hit our White and Green mana more efficiently. The Exalted triggers also help with the theme for this aggressive build. Being able to cast Loxodon Smiter Turn 2, Siege Rhino Turn 3, Wilt-Leaf Liege Turn 4 is just insane.

  • Qasali Pridemage - Essentially a Hatebear mainboard. The W/G casting cost is just what we are looking for. Gives us mainboard hate to some pesky enchantments or artifacts in the format. His Exalted ability is also a plus.

Sorceries

  • Inquisition of Kozilek - Its a potential turn 1 play that lets us disrupt their hand. With the only limitations of a nonland with a CMC of 3 or less, it leaves us with basically majority of threats in the meta to take.

  • Thoughtseize - Here to also mess up their hand and game plan. It also punishes those grindier decks that just have couple of higher mana cost win-cons. Works best against match ups like Amulet Bloom, Tron, and Twin.

  • Maelstrom Pulse - Needed as a 1 of in almost all BGx decks. It lets us destroy anything we need it to so have to use it wisely. We can mess up Tron (one of our worst match ups) with this or even some aggressive decks that want to play 2-4 of the same type of creature at once.

  • Lingering Souls - This card is also one of the reasons we are playing Junk over Jund. The ability to create 4 1/1 Flying White Spirits for 5 mana is so efficient. We can use these tokens for chump blockers for days or get real aggressive by attacking through the air. Gavony Township and Wilt-Leaf Liege will make out little 1/1's become big threats that will close out the game instantly.

INSTANTS

  • Path to Exile - This card is one of the best removal cards in Modern. The only downside is giving our opponent a basic land. However, we will not be using these early game since our value creatures will be able to trade favorably for us. The Exile effect is also very relevant for cards like Wurmcoil Engine.

  • Abrupt Decay - Hits all types of permanents except lands! And this is uncounterable! Abrupt Decay is particularly strong against any Splinter Twin variant due to their reliance on counterspells when they try to combo-off. Also, works great against decks Affinity, Infect, Jund and Junk, decks that have difficult threats to handle without a card like Abrupt Decay.
