Overview

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is typically played as a commander that leverages stax, mana denial strategies, and locks to grind the game to a halt. What I am doing here is a little different. We are still using a small portion of the staxy bits, but mostly we use Derevi's ability to gain a mana advantage, and to abuse tap abilities on cards like Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, Bloom Tender, and Azami, Lady of Scrolls. This is a WIZARD DECK! We aim to use the aforementioned synergies to accumulate a critical mass of wizards on the board. With cards like Patron Wizard, Stonybrook Schoolmaster, Voidmage Prodigy, and Sigil Tracer we have great ways to abuse this creature type.

Game Plan

Early Game - During the early game we are looking to develop our mana and to set up a card advantage engine. Rhystic Study Sylvan Library are best here as they can carry you farther into the game than an Azami, Lady of Scrolls or a Mystic Remora This Deck is not a fast combo deck, and it takes some time to get off of the ground. We will need to make sure we have some form of interaction available to deal with potential threats.

Combos

• Stasis and Smothering Tithe locks down lands. This is paired with Derevi, Empyrial Tactician will create an enormous advantage.

• Sigil Tracer copying Benefactor's Draught. Makes infinite mana and draws deck. This requires you to be able to make and one of any color with creatures you control. Bloom Tender is the easiest way to achieve this.

• Stonybrook Schoolmaster and Intruder Alarm and a tap outlet. Azami, Lady of Scrolls being your best option. This will allow you to draw the deck, and create a wizard for every card you draw.

-Prime Speaker Vannifar and Derevi, Empyrial Tactician. This combo has a lot of moving parts, but it goes like this... activate Prime Speaker Vannifar sacrificing Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, fetching a Academy Rector into play. Then recast Derevi, Empyrial Tactician for from the command zone, untapping Prime Speaker Vannifar. Activate Prime Speaker Vannifar sacrificing Academy Rector put theAcademy Rector on the stack first, so that the Academy Rector trigger will resolve first. Put Intruder Alarm into play. Prime Speaker Vannifar resolves and gets Azami, Lady of Scrolls. Prime Speaker Vannifar untaps, sac Azami, Lady of Scrolls for Woodland Bellower. Woodland Bellower gets any one or two drop, which we will sacrifice up to a Stonybrook Schoolmaster. Then sacrifice Woodland Bellower for Angel of Glory's Rise, which will return Azami, Lady of Scrolls.
