Maybe it is just the you way you worded your description but you are aware that your Ooze tokens will only evolve your Cloudfin Raptor once, provided he's still a 0/1, right? Assuming you are making a 1/1 token of course.

@Midwest Cloudfin with a counter. Use counter to make ooze. Evolves the 0/1 Cloudfin. Use the evolve counter to make an ooze. Evolves 0/1 Cloudfin. rinse and repeat

That makes more sense. Sorry, I read it differently. (really wish I could edit comments so I don't have to post 9 of them for every individual thought I have after I posted.)

Fathom Mage could be a possibility...don't really need more 4 drops.. and yeah that's kinda lame that you can't edit comments.

You don't. But if you find room for it, it is another Bioshift target. Could help you draw into a win condition if you haven't hit one yet. I wouldn't say it's a must-have. Just something to consider.

Wow. That Bioshift combo seems crazy...I do need more draw power...I considered Prime Speaker Zegana but I didn't want to add more 6 drop...I'll play around with Fathom Mage

Give also works really well with Fathom Mage .

I was thinking maybe you could take Experiment One s out for Frostburn Weird because you have 12 one drops and 6 two drops, frostburn can hit hard and block hard and adds 2 blue devotion compared to the 1 green. Don't know which you want more, but I personally don't have more than 8 one drops in a deck unless it's a weenie deck

All Up I feel this build is a bit temperamental and lacks any sense of consistency. First off your mana base of 21 land often leaves you with 1 land hands. While having mana dorks helps if that one land is an island then your going to be pushing it without a mulligan, it gets even worse if that 1 land is Nykthos. Also while I love Nykthos, I cannot see it doing anything in this build you would be better of with 3 more forests.

Next the creatures, you have 12 1 drops. Now in mono red 12 is generally low, in Simic it's rather high - especially when aiming for evolve. 12 cards is 1/5th of your deck - that is 1/5 of your deck that doesn't interact with one another to trigger evolve. (excluding cloudfin but then he just becomes a 1/2 from another 1 drop) On top of this you also have bioshift that only helps after things have evolved. Typically you will hold this for your Biomancer synergy and then it's just kind of sitting their in your hand.

Then the 2 drops you have two mana dorks. Sylvan Caryatid is great. It's hexproof it will evolve all 1 drops twice and will even evolve renegade Krasis. He also manafixes for when your short on blue. Voyaging Satyr... not so much. Since Nykthos doesn't do much untapping that generally is much worthwhile andhe isn't a garunteed manafixer like sylvan. He's easily removed and he will only evolve your 1 drops once - including cloudfin. I'd swap him for either more land or more sylvan.

The three drops look a bit better and Renegade Krasis is brilliant Vorel and Elusive Krasiswill also evolve everything else, both are good cards to have.

The four drop spot is pretty decent with Master Biomancer. Ooze Flux on the other hand, not so much. You mentioned saying you could make1/1's off cloudfin but I'd like to remind you that's a 1/1 for 2 mana. Sure with lots of creatures you can remove multiple counters and do the same thing but then you have to have a large board state in standard at the moment there is a lot of removal, for you to get enough creatures out, cast this and activate its ability it is a very unstable strategy. For it to be a good card you need at least three creatures on board to cast a 3/3 and make it worth while. Given the 4 initial mana cost even that is pushing it.

The five drops you have 1 of each Prophet and Kalonian. Both are great cards and both in this deck have a 1/60 chance of you actually having it. 7/60 chance in your opening hand. Get more Kalonian Hydras. Trust me, in Simic they do a lot of work and will win you a lot more games than Ooze Flux ever will and Ooze flux you need toinvest at least 6 mana to use.

Your 6 drop spot. First of, Give/Take. the chances of you casting both halves in this deck is going to be low. 6 mana to draw 3 cards is expensive. Simply using take is also expensive. Then there is give. This would probably be a decent three drop if it was an instant. It does play well with Master Biomancer but that's probably on the only card I'd really want to use it on. Then there's Garruk. Garruk is pretty cool but he's at the topof your curve making his -3 a bit meh and a little slow/late for the card draw. Also with 21 land you may have a hard time hitting the 6 mana for him.

Here's my competitive Simic build if it helps:Simic Monster Stock

I would definitely try to get Simic Charm on the mainboard to protect your important creatures, and probably a couple Cyclonic Rift as well. The Charm can serve many of the same purposes as Bioshift (save a creature instead of just counters, combat trick, etc) while being much more flexible and not giving up a 2-for-1, and Ooze Flux is a little too slow imho.

Here's my Simic deck that's more based on the Devotion to Green mechanics: My Prophet, Your Loss (Top 4 FNM)

@andrew and @miniwill... I am keeping this as a standard deck so no to the doubling seasons and land. @eybarisax I am seriously considering the frostburn weirds. That is true, I am running many 1 drops. That would help me not run out of cards in hand too soon and help balance mana curve.

@ChrisHansonBiomancin Yeah I originally hate removed the Simic Charm, but as I playtest I can see where it would be much more helpful than the Bioshift. as for your deck, it seems like a variation of mana ramp green monster deck.

@Ultimaodin The land I still need to balance. I enjoy the Nykthos a lot, maybe lower to 2 but I'd like to keep them. Definitely need to push it heavier into forests than islands though. As for 1 drops, do you agree with removing the experiment one's?2 drops, Voyaging Satyr is just as useful as Sylvan except its not a 0/3. It is a single mana until mid/late game when I can untap Nykthos. If I remove the Ooze Flux, then I would probably put Zameck Guildmage back in to have a mana sink.3 drops, I am iffy on the Elusive Krasis.4 drops, I feel the 2 slots of the Ooze Flux could be better used elsewhere.5 drops, I really didn't want to run 4 Kalonians...I have to play around with that.6 drops, I usually don't use Give/Take, I just use Give most of the time unless I need draw power. Garruk, there hasn't been a time that I have lost a game because I didn't have the mana to play Garruk..

As for your deck, I like it. It seems that you have been winning FNM in your meta. It gives me a reference for a good deck. I want to try to keep focus on the Evolution and keep it faster.

I appreciate all the feedback though! Especially from Ultimaodin. I have ideas for sideboard now. If this does well with playtesting my friend, I will actually build it and take it to FNM to actually test it.

@Zarlisk Nykthos just seems out of place in my opinion, you have amazing mana acceleration already with Prophet, Mystics, and Sylvan with no real mana sinks besides creatures. I'd trade that for another land just for consistency.

+1 For unique deck idea that works fairly well so far!

Ultimaodin -- Trying to keep the core of my deck without straight copying yours..even though you built almost the exact deck I was going for xD. Slightly less evolution in your build.

I certainly like this decklist a lot more too. One thing I noticed was you had Horizon Chimera , but I personally don't like the chimeras and would suggest replacing it for some of your other 4-drops. I would say-2 Horizon Chimera +1 Nylea, God of the Hunt +1 Fathom Mage

December 25, 2013 12:55 a.m.

Ultimaodin says... #24

eybarisax - never underestimate Horizon Chimera. I life each time you draw may not seem like much, until bred for the Hunt and Bident start netting you a bunch of cards.

Zarlisk - let me know how you go with Manipulator in the sideboard and Master Biomancer in the main. Since the Planeswalker will be hitting with born of the gods her +1is enough hassle against creature decks that I may move my own manipulator for sideboard.

Merry christmas to me! Simic planeswalker finally. Omg. And to eybarisax, im.not running two nyleas.
