I keep my list up to date and do my best to answer questions in a timely fashion. I dont expect that to be changing any time soon.

If you played in a meta that utilized the graveyard less, which of Tormod's Crypt or Nihil Spellbomb would you remove? Would Pithing Needle be a card you would consider? What cards would be on your short list? I may be facing another Doomsday Zur build.

Is Pull from Eternity primary purpose to combat Jeleva's exile effect? That was hinted at in the comment section of the primer. If yes, would you consider Cavern of Souls to be an adequate substitute in a heavy blue control environment?
March 29, 2016 3:02 a.m.
Pull from Eternity is only here because I regularly fight Jeleva.
I would never play Cavern of souls however.
The deck runs 5 creatures, all humans. None of them except labman need to resolve. Cavern is not an island and does not tap for colored mana when actually needed. Finally, if Im casting labman they should have answered whichever spell got me to that point because I likely have too many resources to actually be interrupted at this point.
When fighting the deck, dont counter labman. Counter the big scary black spells.

Hey Skuloth! I'm having pretty decent success with my build, especially now that I've tweaked it with your Reddit suggestions. (The list on here is outdated)
How is the new Jace working out for ya? I've got a copy lying around that I'm considering putting in. The lack of haste makes me a bit wary, though.

Filters you before you combo and is a second copy of snappy when you combo, seems like an all-star.

I never see Jeleva (Moxnix's deck?) in my meta. What is a good replacement for Pull from Eternity? I may have a mirror match against a Doomsday Zur build.

Use it as a free space for a card dedicated to your meta?

Has Personal Tutor ever got any consideration? Would you run both Detention Sphere and Oblivion Ring?

Doesn't grab AdNuas or Hightide, probably not worth it. I think Skuloth hates Shere's art to the point he won't run it.

Werekill: My deck here is absolutely up to date.
Frank_Glascock: Jace is great. Replace pull with whatever, but having it really isn't a liability.
Personal tutor is garbage, its a sorcery and a top deck tutor AND extremely limited in what it can hit.
Grasp of fate is the best ORing effect currently. I play two such effects, and the difference between Oring and Dsphere has never been relevant. Lorwyn oring foils are beautiful, dsphere isn't.

Ha, I meant my own list not being up to date. Apologies, should have been more clear.
What does Merchant Scroll hit, most of the time? Usually I just go for Mystical Tutor or a free counter, but I'd love to hear if I'm missing any lines of play.

It really depends on the situation, but more often than not it grabs a blue ritual (High tide or mana drain) or force of will.

I want to thank you for the time and expertise you invest maintainig this listing and answering questions. I will have this deck 100% completed by the weekend. I built Zur Doomsday because of this thread.
Why is Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth not in the list? Have you missed Enlightened Tutor?
How often is Zur into Necropotence your line of play? No Cavern of Souls and no means to give him haste and protection (Lightening Greaves, Swiftfoot boots) leads me to believe this strategy is employed less than a third of the time. Am I way off base?

I'll give this a go. The deck doesn't want non blue producing nonbasics bar scrubland. And it runs enough artifact and ritual based ramp to hard cast necro if need be. It also packs enough interaction that if Zur>necro is your line to win you can do it. E tutor has no combo targets and just gets ramp pieces at the cost of 2-for-1ing yourself. Greaves and boots are trash, hence not played.

Enlightened Tutor gets you Necropotence, artifact ramp and access to graveyard hate and enchantment removal.

At the cost of CA, adding to that what do you cut? The biggest issue is that at its best the card gets you necro but is really bad outside of that. The entire reason this deck is Esper and not Dimir is for Zur to fetch Necro anyway, E tutor is pretty subpar when you consider these factors.
March 31, 2016 3:36 p.m.
Enlightened tutor is dead during the combo.
Its VERY hard to cast necro without a ritual, so you dont want necro in your hand.
I hate having to play Scrubland and Swamp. Urborg would be another card I hate having in play. Swamp is for nonbasic hate which is fairly prevalent, and scrubland is a white source you can fetch from black fetches and vice versa so it needs to be here.
Urborg dies to nonbasic hate, isnt an island, and doesnt meet a current need of the deck.

I forgot about Silence. Did I miss anything else?
April 2, 2016 9:11 p.m.
Split second and I don't get along.
However, the cards are rarely played in my meta.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to deal with it. Do you have any suggestions? Could Thoughtseize for Pull from Eternity be an option?
April 3, 2016 2:21 a.m.
Really don't see why you can't silence before casting labman
April 3, 2016 5:22 a.m.
You can silence before LabMan, but you wont always have silence.
Also split second cards are rarely played, because they arent overly efficient.

I want to apologize for making that error on Snapcaster Mage. I had been looking at several Zur lists and just missed it. I have ordered the last two cards (and most expensive) to be able to duplicate your list. I hope you will continue to provide your analysis and playtesting experiences.
