Sideboard

Adamantium Blue says it all. Mono-Blue artifacts. Ready for incoming Standard rotation.

How does it work?

Well, the idea here is threefold:

  • Ensoul Artifact early and beat them in the early game

  • Draw cards and grow your Chasm Skulkers to win the mid/late game

  • Beat them in mid/late game with big fat artifact creatures

A few metagame comments before I get into the deck (to avoid tl;dr):

1) If you are facing any black at all, assume they will Thoughtsieze you on their first turn. Keep that in mind when you see your hand, because I guarantee that Ensoul Artifact will be the first to go.

2) Don't forget that this is NOT a control deck. Turn 'em sideways and go for the throat. Against a control deck, there are enough threats in here to burn through their counters quickly. Remember, the more cards you play on your turn, the harder it is for them save enough mana to counter them all.

The cards:

13x Island - Mono-Blue land base for mono-blue deck. You might think this is too few, but with the Darksteel Citadels and the Springleaf Drums, coupled with the overall low CMC and Convoke, it works well.

4x Darksteel Citadel - With Ensoul Artifact, absolutely beastly. A 5/5 indestructible creature on turn 2. 'Nuff said.

2x Springleaf Drum - 1 drop that help with rampings. Gets Convoke, and is also a handy target for Ensoul Artifact.

4x Ornithopter - Costs nothing, but ridiculous on turn 2 with Ensoul Artifact.

4x Chief Engineer - Convokation Central. Can even be used immediately for convoking out something in the early game.

4x Chasm Skulker - I LOVE THIS CARD. It gets really wacky really fast. I put in some extra card draw to maximize him. He just gets bigger and scarier. Can be a win condition or a big ass blocker. Especially when you add in...

3x Soul of New Phyrexia - Not for use with the Ensoul Artifact. Instead, he is a 6/6 trampler that makes EVERYTHING indestructible for 5 mana. And he's also an artifact creature, so he gets Convoke from the Chief Engineer. So sexy.

2x Dictate of Kruphix - If you're going to run a Chasm Skulker, you need more cards. I know that this works bilaterally, but between Convoke and low CMCs, you're more likely to get a card you can use right away.

3x Divination - More cards. Grow a Chasm Skulker or look for help.

4x Ensoul Artifact - Can't say anything I haven't already said. In fact, it's worth considering mulliganing once or twice to try to open with one in hand.

3x Rogue's Gloves - Cheap target for Ensoul Artifact. Also gets more card draw.

3x Scuttling Doom Engine - Rockstar. A 6/6 for 6 with bonus abilities? Convoke him out fast and it starts a very short clock for your opponent.

2x Thassa, God of the Sea - Even if she doesn't come online, which she usually does, her scry ability makes hitting your draws much easier. Then add her unblockable ability, and you can really make the sparks fly.

3x therspouts - This is an Aggro deck. No two ways about it. Still, some removal is needed. The best usage is with the Bident. Use it to make all of their creatures attack, then bounce them all.

4x Phyrexian Revoker - An early game target for Ensoul Artifact with a bonus of hosing your opponent. True, it's better in game 2, when you know what you're opponent is running, but once you get to the midgame, you have a pretty good idea what to shut down.

2x Bident of Thassa - Convokable artifact, that draws cards and counts for devotion. Builds up your Chasm Skulker, while being a good target for Ensoul Artifact.

The Sideboard: (Work in Progress)

This deck does not want to be a control deck, even post-boarding. This deck wants to sprint, jump and bash your face in. So this board is about evasion and protection.

3x Aerial Formation - If you find that you need something to get your boys across, this will do so rather surprisingly and handily. Also good if your opponent is flying overhead.

2x Master of Predicaments - Aside from being super-janky, he's a 4/4 flyer that can also put something into play. There's a fair amount of cards that are 4 and above, so you may get lucky. Either way, it's pure bonus. Again, helps against flyers, and has evasion.

2x Perilous Vault - Board wipe. Depending on what's out there, this can be useful on its own, or as a target for Ensoul Artifact.

2x Polymorphist's Jest - Another useful combat trick. Cheap and effective.

2x Shield of the Avatar - A 1 drop artifact, so it's a good target for Ensoul Artifact. Also, an excellent equipment too, as it can protect one of your creatures in the late game.

2x Voyage's End - Sometimes, you just have to make something go away, and go away NOW. This is useful against a big, souped up enemy creature, or you can bounce your own before you Perilous Vault the whole board.

1x Soul of New Phyrexia - In case you need the full complement.

1x Scuttling Doom Engine - In case you need the full complement.

Updates Add

This is the current SB:

SB: 3 Aerial Formation

SB: 2 Master of Predicaments

SB: 2 Perilous Vault

SB: 2 Polymorphist's Jest

SB: 1 Scuttling Doom Engine

SB: 2 Shield of the Avatar

SB: 1 Soul of New Phyrexia

SB: 2 Voyage's End

I'm thinking now that there will be alot of artifact hate out there. To accommodate for that, I think I have a new SB:

SB: 3 Aerial Formation

SB: 4 Master of Predicaments

SB: 2 Polymorphist's Jest

SB: 2 Voyage's End

SB: 4 Dissolve

Then, drop the equipment, cut a few Doom Engines and Phyrexian Souls, bring in the Voyage's End, the Dissolves, and the Master of Predicaments. Changes it to more of a control deck, but it should deal well with artifact hate.
