Why Thrarios and Tymna?

**

For me there are two big reasons to play Tymna the Weaver over any of the other available options at the moment. Firstly she offers you a second source of card advantage from the Command Zone and that can be fairly pivotal depending on what other decks are in your pod/meta. The second reason is that I believe black to be a better 4th colour than red. Akiri, Line-Slinger is a cheap commander but doesn’t really add anything to the game plan of the deck and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder plays towards bigger creatures and that’s not where we want to be with this deck. Although red offers us the option of including Zirda, the Dawnwaker to help reduce Thrasios’ activations I feel that black’s tutors are a better fit for assembling a board that can take the most advantage out of those activations.

How to Win

**

There two primary win conditions in the deck, but a number of different ways to get to them. These conditions revolve around either drawing our entire deck with Thrasios, Triton Hero or exiling it with Tainted Pact or Demonic Consultation followed up by either Thassa's Oracle or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. Our easiest way of getting the correct cards in hand to play is by generating incremental value through Thrasios activations and Tymna’s combat ability. If we’re not finding the pieces to exile our deck, we can instead generate infinite mana instead and then draw our entire deck with Thrasios. We have a number of ways of generating infinite mana; Dramatic Reversal inprinted on an Isochron Scepter; Freed from the Real enchanting either a Bloom Tender or Faeburrow Elder; Freed from the Real enchanting either Bloom Tender, Faeburrow Elder, Birds of Paradise, Incubation Druid or Noble Hierarch while we also control Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy.

Incremental Value Engines

The best card we run to help activate Thrasios as many times as possible is Seedborn Muse, and it also allows us to hold up interaction during every players turn as well but that’s a secondary advantage to the card. Some may argue that a five mana creature with no immediate affect is too much but with Kinnan, plenty of dorks, Green Sun's Zenith and the fact that we can Eldritch Evolution Tymna into her makes it worth the cost to me. We also run a couple of other cards that reduce the cost of activating Thrasios; Training Grounds and Biomancer's Familiar both reduce it from four to two doubling the number of activations immediately. With both it reduces it to one mana giving us even more activations again. The fact that we can also GSZ into Familiar to is an added bonus. We also have a fairly high creature count with all of the mana producers and hate pieces from white that Gaea's Cradle becomes very good at generating mana as well, and it’s also incredibly good with Seedborn Muse in play as well. I’ve included Crop Rotation to allow us to find Cradle once we have a solid board state to take advantage of the mana it’ll provide us. We also have the line of activating Kinnan as well if we can't get our Thrasios to stick around either, although it's a little more clunky, it certainly does some work at the right tables.
