Creature (1)

I bought a proxy precon off of Etsy that is Adventure Time-themed, for a good friend of mine who loves the show. Arrived 9/5/24. Print quality was a bit suspect on some of the cards, but most look pretty good. About ten or so cards have super dark art. Decent cardstock, though. Can't complain too much, since I got it on sale. Saving the card list here for fun.

The website only had about a quarter of the cards in the pictures, but I loved what I saw so I went for it.

The deck doesn't seem to be a "cram-every-Adventure-Time-character-into-one-deck" deck. Perhaps a Kenrith, the Returned King goodstuff pile would be more like that. Having the partner commanders where one is a dog is on-point though!

I think the deck aims to be properly functional and mechanically-thematic, while including as many characters as it can. An interesting balance, which I think it achieves fine. I feel like the creator could've found a few more names to convert, but I think it's a great first attempt. All of the cards with original Magic names have the perfect art. Even the tokens are great. I would love to see what the next version of this deck looks like, but it's hard to find. Seller disappeared, if they even were the original designer (which may be unlikely).

In honor of the many adventures Darkrai073 and I have been on.

The main theme of the deck is.... Adventures, of course! There is a strong "cast from exile" subtheme too. Also a good amount of magic swords. It's an interesting pile of jank, combined with expensive mega-staples and very powerful commanders.

I love how Pako and Haldan fit so perfectly, fluff-wise. Finn seeks treasure, and Jake grows!

One thing that's fun about the deck is there are multiple options for commanders. The Thirteenth Doctorfoil and Yasmin Khanfoil (Ice King and Gunter), Rashmi and Ragavan (Princess Bubblegum and Marcy), or Beluna Grandsquall (King Huge) can all be the commander, instead of Haldan, Avid Arcanist and Pako, Arcane Retriever. Jake and Finn are by far the strongest choice, but it's nice to have the option.

It's really fun that there is a companion, with Tree Trunks a.k.a. Keruga, the Macrosage. Didn't have to be that way, but it takes advantage of all the Adventure cards. Good on ya, stranger on the internet.

I think forcing a BMO card would've been prudent. I saw a half-decent detective nick valentine proxy of noir BMO.

I'm not sure I would have put off-color fetches in the deck were I building it, but it does allow for a little more fun art from the show. Good synergy with Crucible of Worlds I guess, but that's about all I can think of. Missing Ketria Triome seems like a huge oversight, along with Command Tower and Frontier Bivouac. Probably could've squeezed in the Bond Lands and Cinder Glade too.

Special Guests Show

Card versions listed here are just whatever I felt like, since the deck is all custom proxies.
