Sideboard

A alternate take on the effective RG Energy deck, adding in black to get value from Glint-Sleeve Siphoner to get card advantage, and Winding Constrictor to make energy more efficient. the two of them even work excellent together, because every swing of Siphoner generates EE with Snake in play and thus you can keep paying the life to fetch extra cards each turn without dipping into your actual E pool reserved for your beaters.

The ideas behind this is not only make you E production more efficient with Winding Constrictor, but in turn will make Bristling Hydra even more lethal per activation, and allow more activations, giving more use from Aether Hub ect. Glint-Sleeve Siphoner is there to give card advantage while generating E, Rishkar, Peema Renegade was an odd choice but he icreases your mana significantly, allowing you go more wide by playing multiple spells a turn, he synergizes with Constrictor to pump things like Pummeler and Hydra bigger, and smooths the curve out more being a 3 drop (I had originally had Longtusk Cub in his place). Moving into black gives us access to Fatal Push. Attune with Aether does great making sure we hit our colors while still netting us E.

the Side Board is still in flux, but here's what I have planned thus far.Arlinn Kord   is great as her abilities give us solid pumps on either side, a spare bolt when needed and even a token to help go wide further. She's for going wide on grindier match ups.Invigorated Rampage also is for the go wide strat. Lightning Runner and Gonti's Aether Heart are for the long grinders, allowing you seal a lethal push.Chandra, Torch of Defiance gives a bit of burn to keep pressure while providing more ramp to out flank. Heroic Intervention is your ace against Control and also can be used to crash through in a board stall.Liliana, the Last Hope, for control agro, both dampening their creatures and letting you get back a sweeper if need be.Lifecrafter's Bestiary to help card advantage.Radiant Flames takes advantage of us being 3 color while being able to be tailored if we need to wipe chump blockers without killing our own. Also synergizes with Heroic Intervention for a blow out.Natural State for Taxes Enchants, Deadlock traps, ect.

EDIT: I pulled Fatal Push into the SB because while its an amazing card, I found I wasn't hitting the pump spells easy enough and Harnessed Lightning removes most chump blockers while feeding the machine, so FP is moved to the SB for now

While I haven't had a chance to test this against Cat Combo, this deck plays highly favorably against the other Tier 2 Standard decks and can fight Mardu, though it seems to be a turn too slow in many matches. What it does do well against Mardu is forcing trades. Trading against Mardu is often the best strat as getting to T4 with a Hydra on the field usually is the nail in the coffin against it, and Mardu often stumbles getting Gideon in play with the WW costs. all the previous turns of trading you efficient beaters for theirs means Hydra is hitting against a relatively open board and then you can pump him to oblivion and finish the match.

still haven't decided where I like the removal to sit, as at first I wasn't too keen on Fatal Push in th MB since I had very little in the way of Revolt, BUT realizing that it was the best card I had against Heart if Kiran quickly shook up my initial build. I'm most likely just going to swap the Harness Lightning for the Pushes, putting the Lightning to the SB and keeping Push MB.

I'm looking at pulling the Pummelers out and replacing them with Ballista, as it favors against Cat Combo and also lets me at times put a trick on the Ballista, blow all the counters off and it still lives for a turn to block.

the real MVP other than Hydra is actually Arlinn Kord. She is a massive closer for me in a every match she shows up. The trick is playing her correctly, which many players get in the trap of and think she's bad. She's NOT there to be a bolt, she's there to be an Over Run. Play her, make a Token, next turn +1 to give the field trample and a pump. If you aren't sitting on a wide field, her front half still lets Brawlers and Hydras take massive chunks out of the opponent while still being up for Defense.

Looking forward, there are a lot of cards in Amonkhet that I want to test: Combat Celebrant Champion of Rhonas Soul-Scar Mage Manglehorn Battlefield Scavenger Flameblade Adept Fling! Samut, Voice of Dissent
