INTRODUCTION
First, a brief introduction to myself, as I am new to TappedOut.
I am a total JOHNNY. I enjoy building decks around trash rares and cards that are considered 'bad' or in the least, tricky. This deck was designed around my second favorite card in MTG -
Jinxed Idol
(my first being Mesmeric Orb, which has a cameo).
I am a total BUDGET deckbuilder and player. In my opinion, it is easy to build 'good' decks with the best cards. I spend hours of research on Gatherer trying to build good decks without the 'best' cards. For this reason, you will never see dual/crack/pain/fetch lands in my decks. Keep this in mind when rating and recommending new cards.
Now, to the deck. I have had this deck in development for 2 years, more or less as you see it here. Your main win condition is
Jinxed Idol
. The idea is to amass more creatures than your opponent, so bouncing Idol(s) back is never an issue. You can also win via a combo with Grinding Station, which I will explain later.
THE CARDS
Etherium Sculptor - a crucial ingredient. The goal is to make all your artifacts under 2 free. This is necessary for the Grinding Station kill.
Myr Servitor - cheap body that recurs. Great food for Idol because they will keep coming back as long as you keep one alive.
Silent Arbiter - just in case you don't have enough chump blockers, this guy locks down aggro decks. Fetchable with Fabricate when you need him.
Myr Retriever - key to the Grinding Station kill, and an all around great recursion engine.
Perilous Myr - chump/Idol food, with the benefit of pinging your opponent.
Akroan Horse - you (generally) aren't going to win by attacking anyway, so this guy becomes an awesome Idol food engine.
Jinxed Idol
- give it to them.
Genesis Chamber - a great engine for Idol food. it will give your opponent creatures, too, but generally you are going to be playing more than them.
Fabricate - great tutor to find that last missing piece.
Mesmeric Orb - maybe not a must, but I had to include 1 in here, although it technically breaks the budget theme.
Grinding Station - combo to be explained below.
Pithing Needle - another of my favorite cards. It occurred to me that once you have a couple Idols on your opponent, you can throw down Needle, naming Idol, and they are stuck with them until they get rid of Needle.
THE COMBO
As an alternate win condition, this deck mill the opponent in one turn.
On board:Etherium SculptorEtherium SculptorMyr RetrieverGrinding Station
Graveyard:Myr Retriever
Sacrifice the living Retriever to the Station. Recur the Retriever (previously) in Graveyard. Station untaps. Repeat infinitely.
A pretty easy combo to achieve if you're left alone, I've found (solitaire testing).
CONCLUDING REMARKS
This is meant to be a competitive, CASUAL Modern deck. It has obvious weaknesses, most notably board sweeps, permission, and flying. I have yet to own this deck, although I am getting close to pulling the trigger on it. All feedback and recommendations are encouraged and appreciated, and I will rate back! Thanks.
