After Nine (Plus) Karonas....

Commander / EDH

jpvraptor1

Okay. Finally get around to un-privatizing this one, as I haven't seen another Karona EDH quite like it. Karona is actually only a minor part of the deck, as the only time you want to get her out is when you're sure the opponent won't get her after you attack. There is plenty of mana-fixing to get you spectrum in a timely manner. Birthing pod is the ideal situation, but, alas, it can't always be. If it gets countered, don't fret. If you have pod out, summon Karona. Attack, then pod into one of the many seven-drops, LEAVING KARONA IN THE GRAVEYARD. I know it's dangerous, but don't worry. Soon enough, it won't matter. Sheoldred is an awesome pod target from Karona if you can ensure she'll make it through til your next turn. Meanwhile, you're tutoring for answers with the many different tutors in the deck. The ideal solution is to get Avacyn out on the field via either quicksilver amulet, pod, or hardcasting. There are a two artifact copies in the deck in case you want to pod twice. (If your opponent has something that removes Avacyn without destruction abilities, you'll want to pod her into Reya Dawnbringer to get her back next turn.) Unbender Tine allows you an extra pod or an extra three mana from Gilded Lotus. If your opponent has a great board state, and most of your creatures are buried in the graveyard, or if you just want a boardwipe of indestructible creatures, use Living Death. Twilight's Call only if you're sure you're getting the upper hand. Urabrask and a pool of potential baddies in the graveyard would be ideal. While you don't get to make your opponents' creatures come in tapped, you can quickly overrun them with multiple combats from Aurelia or Hellkite Charger, and each combat is an additional +3/+3 to a creature type of your choice from Karona's ability. And remember, Karona is an avatar! Eat your heart out, primordials! Birthing Pod won't always work, but Confluxing (especially with a Reverberate handy) has always worked out in a positive way. Make sure your hand is already stocked and, if this technique is going to work, make sure reliquary tower is not on your side of the field. Grab a couple baddies, but save black for Living Death or Twilight's Call. Discard your baddies if your opponents have already used graveyard removal, and bring 'em back next turn or instantly if you have the extra eight mana for an instant cast Twilight's Call. Boardwipe heavy? Don't worry. Use Faith's Reward at the end of their turn! Swing out on the next.

Overall, the deck is kind of strange. It can work on multiple levels, and I'd venture to say I've won 80% of the games I've played with it. It just has answers, plain and simple. Answers to a lot of things. I would really like to pick up a Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, and a Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur to complete the Praetor set (also so I have something else to extend the art on). Any other suggestions would be most helpful, and if you like this deck, try it out for yourself! It's a blast!
