Sideboard

Playtesting on Cockatrice has proven very successful so far. Here's the gist of it:

Ideally you want to curve from Bloodstained Champion to Chief of the Edge to Goblin Rabblemaster to Butcher of the Horde to Zurgo Helmsmasher, and obviously this doesn't happen as seamlessly as we might hope. Fortunately there are curve alternatives for each turn and because of the warrior keyword we get a great bang for our buck on each creature drop (including Mardu Charm tokens:))

T1 Options:

  • I Thoughtseize you. Everyone's favorite thing to say. Ever.

  • Bloodsoaked Champion, keyword warrior with 2/1 for a 1 drop with the incredible upside of being able to be eaten again and again and come back.

  • Scry Land, when in doubt, have a scry.

T2 Options:

T3 Options:

  • Goblin Rabblemaster. The crux of the scheme. To get goblins out to either a) boost his own damage or b) provide food for our friend Butcher of the Horde . Did I mention he's keyworded as a warrior too?

  • Mardu Charm. Probably mana for mana one of the better utility spells these days. Use it for getting rid of a known threat in an enemies hand, a 4 damage burn for creatures or get some more food on the battlefield (keyword warrior of course, you know me too well)

  • Crackling Doom. Stormbreath Dragon that's ran in every ramp deck ever just became monsterous? In resp.

  • Banishing Light. 'Cause Banishing Light

T4 Options:

  • Sorin, Solemn Visitor. Everyone talks shit about this guy but when I have tokens and 1/2 drops out and +1 him they calm down a little. A bit of situational utility here as well.

  • Butcher of the Horde . Does this guy really need an intro? "Ahhhhhh Fresh Meat" 'nough said.

T5 Options:

  • Zurgo Helmsmasher, At first I was like, 5 drop that's legendary, maybe I'll start off with just one in the deck. But then I was like nah. Warrior representing btw.

  • Mardu Roughrider , sort of the guilty pleasure of my deck. Some people warned me it's not that useful. I love the card art and ability and the fact that it's a big dumb beater with warrior keyword!

  • Ankle Shanker , I put this little asshole in just to get a nicer arc in the curve but lets face it, if it wasn't for the fact that he's shockable he's actually pretty sick. Easily sideboarded out if necessary.

You: But Whorable, the meta's all about people ramping big fat fatties and swinging for ridiculous amounts. What do we do about that?

Me: No blocks

Them: Swing

Us: Deflecting Palm

Them: sob

Oh and I almost forgot, Deflecting Palm isn't subject to to protection/shroud/hexproof rules as its rules clearly state "The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage. If damage is prevented this way, Deflecting Palm deals that much damage to that source's controller." No targets.
