You know whats interesting? You use Storm Fleet Aerialist and if you replace Ruin Raider with Siren Lookout (which is a card draw in it's self with explore and uses Siren's Ruse to do it again) Aside from Hostage taker, you basically have all fliers even with the artifacts... It makes me want to recommend fitting Favorable Winds in this deck at that point... Just a thought.

Please link cards like this in future, so I can more easily see what you are saying.

Storm Fleet Aerialist

I don't need another 1/2 Flier in the 2 drop slot.

Kitesail Freebooter is weak as it is, the only advantage being that it can grab a card on the way in.

Siren Lookout is even worse value. Another 1/2 Flier that MIGHT get you card draw ONCE, and costs ?

No thanks.

There is no way in HELL that I would waste Siren's Ruse on flickering it, when I get so much value when using it to flicker Hostage Taker, or Dreamcaller Siren.

It's VERY sad that you can't see the value of Desperate Castaways, which has strengthened the deck so much.

Terrific for early defense, and the extra copy of Aethersphere Harvester sees it ready to attack on Turn 3, most of the time.

I'm going to ask you to hold off Commenting on this deck for a while.

In the past couple of days you've made FIVE Comments, which is a lot, and you seem to be ignoring the reasons I've given in the Description for my card choices.

My partner StuBi and I have been playtesting this deck irl and it's working very well.

That's a very different situation than playtesing against oneself.

It's totally cool. Just my 2 cents. Again, hope it turns out well.

I typoed above.

This is what I meant to say:

"Siren Lookout is even worse value. Another 1/2 Flier that MIGHT get you card draw ONCE, and costs MORE."

Great list! Not too much for me to suggest that you don't seem to be considering already. Have you been having success with this in Standard?

JakeHarlow it's been playing OK in Standard. Nothing worth reporting at this stage.

We keep making tweaks to improve it, and they have made a difference.

With Search for Azcanta  Flip in the mix it should do much better. Lack of good Scry/Draw options has been holding it back a bit.

We've also been tweaking the Sideboard to match the local meta.

Thanks for the great deck! I made it and have been loving it. Do you have any tips for using the sideboard? Like what should I swap out of the deck and such. Anyway thanks again for the great list!

Glad you're having fun with it!

It's been performing well in our local meta.

If you click the link about that says "Sideboard" you will see some notes about what the different cards are there for.

If you click "Sideboard Notes" you will find some specific strategies we have trailed with success.

shadow9823 no problem.

Just so you know, it can feel weird if someone calls you dude, and you are not male.

Thats why I always try to use gender neutral language.

Dont want Magic to start to feel like it s only for blokes. ;0)

How have you found 4x The Scarab God to be? Im curious how often youre drawing redundant copies.

Argy says... #15

Hardly ever.

I play cards like that differently from a lot of other people.

If I want to definitely see a Legendary care in my hand I'm happy to put four copies in.

It's not like people can't get rid of them, with all the copies of Ixalan's Binding running around.

Someone claimed that I took on board all their building suggestions.

Let's review, shall we?

  1. "you run run too much combat tricks instant"

This has not proven to be the case.

Being able to protect and flicker Hostage Taker and Dreamcaller Siren has been essential for this deck.

In fact I have recently ADDED another non-creature spell in the form of Walk the Plank, and it has paid off.

  2. "i would personnaly prefer more creatures than Fell Flagship"

That Vehicle was suggested by clayperce. I gave it a go. It didn't work as well as Aethersphere Harvester, so I took it out.

My Vehicles count has dropped by a grand total of 2.

  3. "you wouldnt win a race against most non flying aggro or even midrange decks, ranging from constrictors decks, to dinausors or anything with this flavor"

This deck has consistently beaten Ixalan Ramunap Red and Dinosaur decks, even BEFORE the latest changes.

I never expected it to beat Tier 1 Snek Decks.

  4. "you have a lot of CA but you don't have the impactful cards you want to draw in the middle of the game"

This has simply not been true. Again, Dreamcaller Siren, and Hostage Taker turn games around, and win them, from mid game onwards.

  5. "in a deck (pardon me if i'm totally wrong) that seem to be kind of aggro"

Yes, you are completely wrong. The deck wins in the mid to late game.

  6. "your creatures aren't that great"

They have all been doing an amazing job at each point on the curve, and Siren Stormtamer's dfensive capabilities have been insane.

  7. "i would largely prefer pushs in mainboard"

The Sideboard has been fine for them. Walk the Plank has proven to be more useful in the Main.

In summary no, the suggestions have NOT all been adopted.

The major change to the Deck has been adding The Scorpion God, which they did not mention once.

I thanked the poster for their suggestions, and said I would keep them in mind while playtesting.

For some reason that hurt their feelings.

I also said, "I won't put any Non-Pirates in this deck unless they have some outrageously outlandish synergy".

This was the reason I added The Scorpion God to the deck. I had overlooked the fact that it let me get another use out of Hostage Taker, by playing it from my graveyard.

There's no need for hostility, if someone builds a deck differently from how you would.

Decks go through a process of adjustment, in response to the local meta. That is what has happened with this deck.

It is, however, still true to the original idea of using, and protecting, Pirates to interrupt the Opponent's tempo.

Just out of curiosity, have any cards from Rivals been considered yet? It has done a lot to help out Pirates.

February 20, 2018 9:19 p.m.

Argy says... #18

Yes, they have been.

None of them were considered better value than the Pirates already in use here.

Also, this deck has been playing perfectly, so there's no need to adjust it.

I don't write a lot of match reports for it because my partner StuBi has been piloting it.
