Sideboard

This is my 1v1 version of the Akiri-Bruse (RW) Aggro-Control list for multiplayer EDH. For a full description of the deck and general principles, check the multiplayer list:

This 1v1 list actually follows the multiplayer EDH banned list, instead of the 1v1 list (no orb, no fun), and it features a 15-card sideboard for the cases it is allowed to have one. In brief, the principles guiding this 1v1 list are very much in tune with the ones for the multiplayer list--that is, we also follow the ideas behind legacy parfait, we continue to play an aggro-control strategy, and resource denial is a big portion of what makes this deck effective. However, in the 1v1 case, we take a more proactive role regarding resource denial. For example, instead of running Jokulhaups and Cataclysm , this list runs Armageddon and Ravages of War --that is, we'll assume that we can build a board presence faster than our opponent (akiri and bruse are very good at that) and then close the game with geddon effects in addition to moon effects. Therefore, cards such as Boros Charm and Teferi's Protection are dropped because they are reactive or combo pieces that the 1v1 deck does not need anymore. Instead, we add more removals (e.g., Chain Lightning ) and card draw engines ( Coercive Portal and a bunch of new walkers that exile cards from the top of the library). That would be the main difference between the two lists.

Note

I'll not update this version as often as my multiplayer version, so make sure to check that out for updates.

Video demos

Here are a few videos that show how the deck works. Those games were played against the computer, which at times made very questionable decisions. This is not meant to show that this deck is better than others. The purpose of the following videos is to highlight possible lines of play and how it fares against good lists.

Suggestions

Updates Add

Changes:

  • Removed Ajani and Dire Fleet; added Bonecrusher Giant and Aven Mindcensor: Ajani is very awkward with orb and most of the time, it is just an expensive helix. Adding bonecrusher giant in its place. Ive been getting too many games in which the daredevil is just a bear. Dont like it. Adding Aven Mindcensor in its place for distruption against combo and tutor-heavy decks.
